Brand new to Nashville, Tennessee, The National Museum of African American Music will stand as an international iconic cultural museum dedicated to the vast contributions African Americans have made in music. It is to be the only museum dedicated to preserving the legacy and celebrating the accomplishments of the many music genres created, influenced, or inspired by African Americans. Being built in Nashville, the museum will share the story of the American Soundtrack, integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.

The museum has temporarily moved over to timed entry to allow for social distancing throughout the exhibits. Please bring this voucher and a valid photo ID to the museum Will Call window on your scheduled day of travel and you will be placed on the next available entry time (entry approximately every 30 minutes). We are located at the intersection of Rep John Lewis Way (formerly 5th Avenue) and Broadway in Downtown Nashville, TN. Entrance to the museum is across the street from the Ryman Auditorium.

National Museum of African American Music

The National Museum of African American Music will be a 56,000 square foot facility located at Fifth and Broadway. The National Museum of African American Music will tell a story that has never before been told – one which shares how African Americans play a critical role in shaping our country’s heritage and culture. From production to songwriting to performance to consumption, this country’s musical landscape was formed by a distinct group who created, influenced and inspired more than 50 genres and styles of music. This story will be one of history, struggles, triumphs and culture – a story of a people; with remarkable resilience and artistry. The museum will showcase how many of today’s artists are connected to the traditions born out of the African American experience, with captivating scenes, interactive technology, quotes, artifacts and creative educational programming.

Awesome history an depiction on the timeline of music for the African American influence on music culture. From the history in the areas for gospel music, to jazz, through R&B and Hip Hop. A great collection of the music history with great interactive demos for your own vocals and producing ability. Social distancing observed throughout.

Newly opened this year which explains why there are so few reviews. This museum is simply wonderful and the best place we visited on our trip to Nashville. It took us back to the African roots through slavery to the present day. The presentations were superb and many were interactive. We especially loved the listening stations where you can choose an artist, hear a sample and see who influenced them who are their peers, and who are their followers. Covid protocols followed also a plus. If I had to choose between this and Country Music Hall - also good- I would choose this in a heartbeat.

The origin of African American music and history was very well-documented. I will definitely be taking another trip to visit again very soon.
