Barataria Preserve
See the Cajuns of the Bayou living and surviving in harmony with the swamps. Here, the waterways are their highways. From the relaxing comfort of our Covered Swamp Tour Boats, we will drift slowly past a 2000 year old Indian Burial Mound, a Cajun cemetery, and a Fishing village! You may see the wildlife that made the Barataria Swamps the Crown Jewel of the Louisiana Purchase. If you choose the airboat option - you will experience the best of both: a swamp tour and an airboat ride. You will travel at high speeds on the airboat then slow down and stop for pictures. Along the way, you will get a personal tour by your local Captain. Our airboats have stadium style seating, so that the person in front of you does not obstruct your view. Every airboat seat is great for experiencing the tour and viewing the wildlife. Gators will get close…….real close!!!

Not what I thought it would be. Was not informed the cemetary stop was canceled due to All Saints Day. If I'd known I would have rescheduled. That was very disappointing. Bus did not drive by many places we wanted to see, disappointing. The roads in some areas were in very poor condition causing the bus to shake, drop and rock back and forth very bad for older bodies we are very sore the next day. We did see a few alligators on the swamp boat tour but since the swamp boat and airboat shared the same waterways at the same time we were subjected to the sound of the very loud airboat motor which disturbed our otherwise peaceful swamp tour. We did not see a Cajun village on the Bayou that was disappointing also. Most of the tour was disappointing. Our Drivers were very knowledgeable and we did learn alot.

Thank you for your feedback. Everyone's expectation of the tour is different and we understand that. The cemetery is not a guaranteed stop if a funeral is proceeding in respect for the families. In other instances like All Saints Day, it has been a long-time tradition for families to visit their loved ones, so we would like to give them that respect as well. As far as the swamp tour, the Cajun Village is the the town of Lafitte, in which you could see across the bayou from where the boats are docked. We do apologize if the captain didn't provide more information in regards to the village, but please know that you can always ask them and they will gladly provide more information. Lastly, as much as we would like better road conditions, that is something that is completely out of our control.
