New Orleans Garden District Private Walking Tour

Overview
Before becoming part of New Orleans, New Orleans Garden District was once Lafayette. Boulevards flanked with trees make the Garden District a seductive choice for a leisurely stroll. Many years of slave labour have resulted in the resplendent beauty that you’ll see today in the Garden District; magnificent homes built for cotton kings nestled on oak-shaded streets dotted with colourful magnolias. Huge historic mansions mingle with single-story cottages and pretty gardens on St. Charles Avenue and Lafayette Cemetery is filled with 19th-century tombs.
Your guide will take you through the area’s history and links with the cotton trade with interesting tales of previous residents including famous athletes, literary stars and film icons. You’ll pass by boutiques and antique shops interrupted only by local cafés and fine-dining restaurants. Your tour ends with a refreshing drink at a local bar where your guide will recommend the best places to shop and eat.

We were pleasantly surprised about the stories associated with the beautiful homes. Suzy, our tour guide, was very informative. It was a leisurely stroll but full of historical sites. Wear comfortable shoes.
