There were no paranormal instruments used as advertised and there were only a hand full of ghost stories told instead of the most 10 hauntings in America. Tour guide was uncertain of a few of the locations we stopped and looked at which had no relevance to ghosts! (eg, we stopped at the oldest bar in America?)

Greetings Darlin,
I hate that you associate one of our many top rated tours as an “epic fail”.
I would like to address the issues and go over a few things you mentioned.
Having over 43,000 guests just last year (2018) I completely understand that we cannot please everyone but we sure as heck try! I never want a guest to feel “not satisfied”
We are a small family owned and operated tour offering tours in the famous French Quarter and we care about each and every guest. Our tours are in high demand and if our tours were as you described I can’t imagine that we would be as successful as we are. I have investigated your account information using both Viator and TripAdvisor. I have also contacted Viator and TripAdvisor direct. Through my investigation I learned that the vouchers you purchased were not scanned during the check in process, nor was their any record of the vouchers lead traveler name showing as “checked in” instead it shows “no show” on the tour guides reservation list that we use.
After speaking with Viator & TripAdvisor it is believed that you have either accidentally attended a different tour or this reservation could have been a late arrival (which means you may have missed when the paranormal equipment was passed to the guest who carried it for the group and when the tour guide explained how it works) During busy season late arrivals are sometimes not updated to show guests arrived after the start of the tour because we are going non stop!! There is a new, different ghost tour that sets up across from where we meet for our tours and we believe you attended their tour. This is a completely different company. I hate spoken with that lady who operates this tour and she agreed that she believes you attended the tour with their company. We understand that guests that not not from NOLA can have difficulties getting around the French Quarter and using a GPS is nearly pointless in the French Quarter for most guests it has absolutely nothing to do with their navigation skills it’s the gps that is the issue. On top of all of this Mardi Gras is wonderful however it can cause added confusion on where guests should meet.
*** One of the complaints made was in reference to the paranormal equipment. Each and every tour given by this tour company offers guests Paranormal Equipment! Not only do we offer an EMF detector for each tour group at the 1st stop on each and every tour, we have two spare pieces of paranormal equipment that we keep in our pockets in the event that a guest drops and breaks the emf detector being used for that group or if a guest loses the paranormal equipment during the break for a drink and restroom stop.
Next Issue—— In this review you said the tour guide was uncertain about locations.
There’s no way after giving the same tours for over 8 years that we are uncertain regarding any stops or stories on any tour given by our company. We (the other tour guide and myself) both own the company. As I previously mentioned we have a family owned and operated company. We have both went to all New Orleans tour guide classes offered at Delgado Community College and received certificates of completion. We are licensed by the City of New Orleans and Safety and Permits. We went further and took our certification further and completed all 7 courses offered at The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. After all the educational courses and giving the tours for as long as we have there is no uncertainty when it comes to our tours, the locations and the content that we offer during the tour. After all, we researched and we created these tours. It would actually be difficult to be uncertain about a tour that we created and have given for so many years.
Next issue— LOCATIONS IN THE FRENCH QUARTER WITH NO RELEVANCE TO
GHOSTS?!?! What!? ——-That my friend is impossible!!
I can tell you a ghost story at every building and even every street in the French Quarter!! Heck we have ghost stories regarding restrooms, galleries, balconies!! Pretty much any and every location you walk up on!!
You mentioned the tour that you attended went to the oldest bar in the US. ~~~~ I am going out on a limb and say that you meant that you went to the “oldest consistently operating active bar” in the United States.
I am so disheartened reading this because the way it was worded in this review, it’s like this bar is nothing special. ~~~ This is one of the most special, most treasured and most haunted locations in the French Quarter. I guarantee that 99% of all ghost tours go to this location.
Who knows, friend- Maybe you were just distracted from the things taking place in the streets of the French Quarter... it would be completely understandable! Especially during The Mardi Gras Madness! However it is important to know that this bar has an amazing history and an abundance of hauntings!
I am going to include the history and some of the hauntings of this property below! This place is a treasure! I am so saddened that it was made to sound like such a pathetic stop on a ghost tour! I’m literally in shock!
Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop is a historic structure at corner of Bourbon Street and St. Philip Street in the famous French Quarter. Most likely built as a house in the 1770s during the Spanish colonial period, it is one of the oldest surviving structures in New Orleans. It survived the Great Fire of 1788 along with many other tragedies that have taken place since. These tragedies have left an imprint that provides us with paranormal experiences, some that are scary in a fun sort of way and others that’s are actually very frightening.
On Bourbon Street sits a quiet and unassuming building. Not only is it one of the oldest buildings in the French Quarter, it is also one of the most haunted. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop has a long haunted history. For years, there have been reports of ghosts, even what is possibly the ghost of Jean Lafitte, haunting this building which is now a bar.
Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop gets its name from Jean Lafitte, who was a pirate and privateer who called New Orleans home in the early 1800’s. A pirate and a privateer were essentially the same thing. A pirate worked for themselves while a privateer worked for a Government. They both looted and robbed and killed. One was just socially acceptable, the other was not.
Lafitte is believed to have been born either in France or the French colony of Saint-Domingue. By 1805, he operated a warehouse in New Orleans to help disperse the goods smuggled by his brother Pierre Lafitte. After the United States government passed the Embargo Act of 1807, the Lafittes moved their operations to an island in Barataria Bay, Louisiana. By 1810, their new port was very successful; the Lafittes pursued a successful smuggling operation and also started to engage in piracy.
Lafitte became a local legend during the War of 1812 when he helped Andrew Jackson defend the city of New Orleans from capture at the hands of the British. Today, you’ll see many landmarks and buildings with his name in New Orleans.
++++The Ghosts of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop++++++
When it comes to the ghosts and hauntings at Lafitte’s it comes as no surprise that the ghost most often associated with this building is the ghost of Jean Lafitte himself. Interestingly, he appears as a full bodied apparition. Full bodied apparitions are not as common as movies would make them out to be! When it comes to this apparition in this case our ghost is dressed in sailor’s gear.
As far as we know, the ghost of Jean Lafitte has never interacted with anyone. He simply stands in the dark corners, staring at people until he is noticed, at which time his ghost disappears into the shadows. Now, this hasn’t happened just one of two times. It seems to be a fairly common occurrence here at the Blacksmith Shop. He is always seen on the first floor, most of the time near the fireplace that is inside.
Who knows maybe next time you are here you will have a chance to have a one on one encounter with Mr. Lafitte himself. Even if you don’t have a run in with the most famous ghost which haunts here, the atmosphere is great.
Guests always notice that the entire place is light with candles…there is no electricity in most of the building…
On the second floor of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop there seems to be another ghost which calls the bar home. Nobody knows who this ghost is, we only know that it is the ghost of a woman. It could have been someone who lived here. Rumor has it that there was a woman who lived here in the 1890s who killed herself upstairs.
An urban legend deeply rooted and passed down each generation in New Orleans is of a man who was burned to death in the fireplace of the bar. It is said that when a fire is burning, you can see his eyes gazing through the flames. I love a good ghost story but this legend may be more fiction than fact, as anyone who has visited Lafitte’s will agree that the fireplace is very small and it would have taken a man the size of an “Oompa Loompa” to fit in there. Regardless, years of haunted encounters from staff and late night patrons do exist.
****I personally like to joke about this place regarding the “purple drink” as a lot of folks call it!! Since this bar is often a stopping point for many haunted history / ghost tours get yourself a Voodoo daiquiri!!
I guarantee that if you attend our tour or another tour even corniest tour guide will soon become an Oscar-winning performer!
Have a blessed day!!!
