New Orleans Mafia, Murder, Madames and All That Jazz Historical Tour

Overview
For the past 300 years New Orleans has hung precariously to the lower lip of a country that doesn’t know quite what to make of her. At best, New Orleans is called “different”. As often as not, the difference is characterized in travel memoirs as “decadence”. Decadent: corrupt, degenerate, depraved, dissipated, dissolute, immoral, sinful, unprincipled. On this two hour walking tour of the French Quarter you will meet the rogues and roués, the mobsters and madams: Silver Dollar Sam, Diamond Jim, Emma Johnson and her House of All Nations, Norma Wallace and, of course, Bourbon Street. In our mind’s eye we’ll tour down the line of Storyville, the legendary and notorious tenderloin district that beckoned all comers between 1898 and 1917. We’ll meet the King Fish, Gov. Huey Long, who fathered modern Louisiana through patronage and payoffs. He might have become President — if he hadn’t be assassinated. You must be at least 21 years old to take this tour. David is an excellent guide and a thorough storyteller. His singing was both the highlight and the lowlight making it a delightful tour.

Thank you for you delightful review of The Savvy Native’s Mafia, Murder, Sex and All That Jazz tour and our guide David. I had to chuckle at your assessment of David’s singing skills. Fortunately David is know as one of New Orleans’ great storytellers and doesn’t need to depend on his singing for his supper. Thanks Again!

It was my good fortune to take the Savvy NativeTour of "Mafia, Murder, Sex, and All That Jazz", with David Feldman. The tour did indeed cover in much detail all that is mentioned in its title. As a New Orleanian and French Quarter resident I thought I knew a great deal about my city. David added the "icing to the King Cake", the "spice to the Boil". A great story teller, an entertaining historian, and a guide par excellence, we did not want the tour to end. In fact, David gave us more than the "allotted time", regaling us with personal stories, insights, and more history of our city. His discussion on Storyville was particularly entertaining and enlightening. I certainly will look forward to more of The Savvy Native Tours, as they cover other areas that are of interest of me. I will especially look for David to guide these tours, and I will add him to the list of "funky New Orleans characters". I highly recommend him and The Savvy Native Tours to both tourists and locals alike. Jim Bellina MD
