What To Expect
1
Jackson Square
This authentic mode of transportation will help you time-travel back to the 1700s and 1800s when death and disease were rampant due to devastating fires, floods, murders, and more! Being that there are only 8-passengers on-board the carriage, the mule-drawn adventure is more intimate and unforgettable. The carriage-driving tour guides are top-rated licensed guides who have been sending chills down spines for over 75 years. Meet and board at the carriage stand located at 700 Decatur Street. As your carriage departs from Jackson Square, your driver/guide will regale you with stories of the city's founding as the carriage passes through the historic French Quarter street.

French Quarter
Travel past landmarks such as Saint Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, Napoleon House, and more as the carriage wind through New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter. Expect stories that are both historical, entertaining and appropriate for all visitors. It's important to understand the history so that you can understand the spirits that haunt the buildings. New Orleans is considered to be the most haunted city in America. Countless tragedies have happened right in the French Quarter, including devastating floods and fires killing thousands, contagious epidemics resulting in thousands of deaths, and other odd occurrences like weird human torture experiments, medical experiments, love lost, and more. These stories have been documented in police records and history books, and some can be quite alarming! You'll learn about the stories, then about how the "spirits" are letting people know that they are still very present! Do you have goosebumps yet?
3
St. Louis Cathedral
View St. Louis Cathedral, the famous landmark and oldest continuously active cathedral in the U.S.
4
Lalaurie Mansion
Are you a fan of American Horror Story? If so, you will absolutely see the infamous LaLaurie Murder Mansion, and discover how the true story told on TV is both similar and different from what actually happened inside this house of horrors.

Our family spent time during the early evening with our knowledgeable and humorous narrator, K.J., as he provided countless stories about people and places as we slowly wound our way through NOLA's famous district. Infamous and bizarre it all was, done in a "tongue-in-cheek" fashion to ease any discomfort which might occur to the squeamish. Perhaps the most enjoyment for the youngest in our group was the time spent visiting with the mules as we waited along the line of carriages prior to the hour's journey. NOTE: Reservations must be made well before the scheduled tour time, as seats are filled early on.

My friends came in to the city to visit me and we wanted to do a ghost tour but it was a very hot weekend and we didnā€™t want to walk more after dinner. We booked this tour as it met all of our wants for the evening. It was a great tour, James was lively and fun. I like to do these tours whenever friends and family come in as I always learn something new and last nightā€™s tour was no exception. What was different this time was how much we were shouted at by passersby and protestors about how cruel it was that this mule was pulling us around. That we were monsters and this was ā€œmodern day slavery.ā€ James took the time to explain to us about Pearlā€™s (our mule) life and her duties and regulations. I had done my own research and stayed abreast of local changes in laws and regulations for the carriage industry here so it wasnā€™t news to me but it was nice to hear what a beautiful life these animals have. It was quite hot, yes, but the mules did not seem at all overworked, hot, thirsty, or agitated. In fact, Pearl took a pause for a rather long pee so sheā€™s clearly not dehydrated. Furthermore, the animals werenā€™t agitated until the protestors were in their faces with a megaphone. Iā€™ve no doubt of the love and care the mules receive and I certainly would not continue to use Royal Carriage tours if I had my doubt of their safety. If anyone has any questions or concerns I invite you to speak to the drivers or give a call to the company.
