Overview

For ages 5 and up, this approx 90-min tour is an "overview" tour of scenic Newport.

After boarding our luxurious and comfortable trolley at platform #2 of the Newport Transit Center, your driver starts the tour with a brief history of Colonial-era downtown and explains the Gilded Age history and events that occurred over the centuries.

Then you will experience breath-taking views of scenic Ocean Drive prior to seeing the strip of mansions lining Bellevue Ave. Along the route, movie and TV sets will come to life, such as HBOs The Gilded Age, Hocus Pocus 2, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, True Lies, and a dozen more.

The duration of this tour is 70-90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions
This tour departs promptly at scheduled time. We cannot hold the trolley for stragglers. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to departure. We may sell the seats of passengers who are not on time to others who are waiting on standby
There are no refunds to passengers who arrive late and miss the tour
Our drivers have updated manifests on their smart phones. Cancelled tickets are not accepted for admission
Youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
The trolley is not handicapped accessible. Driver may assign seating based on customer's physical needs
There are no longer any covid restrictions. All seats and rows are utilized and face coverings are not required

It was quite a nice trundle round the newport area for about an hour and a quarter. Our driver was tom he was quite advising like “the astors lived here and so and so lived there”. You stop roughly half way for 15 minutes where there is a rest room at the fort and a souvenir shop. The “trams “ run on gas. In october the boating season and holiday season are largely over in newport. For the shoulder season tourist that leaves a few shops, walks and the mansions to visit for the casual visitor. The trolley tour is what it is dont expect to be wowed but its perfectly nice thing to do.

The 90 minute tour was crammed with facts about it's more moneyed residents past and present. We did not do the breakers tour which could have been added on, but were happy to spend the rest of the afternoon cruising the shops, boutiques and art galleries!

What a great way to see Newport in a limited amount of time. Very informative, entertaining, and comfortable. We had just a few hours off a ship to see Newport and this was a great way to do it.
