Overview

For ages 5 and up, this approx 90-min tour is an "overview" tour of scenic Newport.

After boarding our luxurious and comfortable trolley at platform #2 of the Newport Transit Center, your driver starts the tour with a brief history of Colonial-era downtown and explains the Gilded Age history and events that occurred over the centuries.

Then you will experience breath-taking views of scenic Ocean Drive prior to seeing the strip of mansions lining Bellevue Ave. Along the route, movie and TV sets will come to life, such as HBOs The Gilded Age, Hocus Pocus 2, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, True Lies, and a dozen more.

Today's happenings are also thoroughly covered such as the best dining spots, boat tours, and other fun activities. Your tour guide will detail the best way to navigate this bustling city as well as explain the Cliff Walk attractions.

The duration of this tour is 70-90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions
This tour departs promptly at scheduled time. We cannot hold the trolley for stragglers. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to departure. We may sell the seats of passengers who are not on time to others who are waiting on standby
There are no refunds to passengers who arrive late and miss the tour
Our drivers have updated manifests on their smart phones. Cancelled tickets are not accepted for admission
Youth under 17 must be accompanied by an adult
The trolley is not handicapped accessible. Driver may assign seating based on customer's physical needs
There are no longer any covid restrictions. All seats and rows are utilized and face coverings are not required

My husband and I took a trolley tour so we could get acclimated with the city and we are so glad we did! Our tour guide provided tid bits on different historical facts about the city, including American History, celebrities & former presidents. He took us down the famous "ocean drive" which wer were grateful for, because we later drove ourselves back and enjoyed a long walk watching the sunset and drooling over the incredible homes. The tour is definitely worth your time and money.

This tour leaves from the Newport Visitor's Center (where you buy your tickets). Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared a wealth of information. It's a great tour to get an overview of why Newport became so attractive to the wealthy families that build mansions along the coast and merchants who needed a deep port. You don't stop on this tour or get off - it's really good for an orientation to Newport and a primer on its history.
