Visiting NYC allowed my husband and I the opportunity to take a day trip to Niagara Falls, a bucket-list activity! And it was well worth the long hours!
Our day began very early in the morning. We were told to be at the meeting point at 3:45 a.m. to depart at 4:00. Our guide, Patricia, was there at the designated time. The bus, however, was not. We waited 20 minutes for the driver/bus to arrive and, after "roll" and general info, didn't actually get on the road until 4:35.
The bus itself was clean and comfortable. Most people slept on the way there. It is a very long trip, 7+ hours with a terrible stop for breakfast on the way up---not really the tour operator's fault that the food venue was slow and didn't have most of the items they had illustrated on their board. Suggestion--take a tote with a variety of snacks and water---we were really glad we did. Bags, extra coats, umbrellas, etc. can be left on the bus at the falls, but with no access during the day.
The falls are incredible---so worth the trip! The "Maid Of The Mist" is a really important, lovely part of the tour but be prepared for unbelievably long lines and to be "herded" onto the boat, shoulder-to-shoulder, in very rough water. (Maybe I'm a cynic, but at times I felt that it was an accident waiting to happen.)
Patricia was a very good guide and kept everyone informed about meet/leave times and meeting points. She gave the group the option to go explore on our own or stay with her the entire time. I liked that.
What I didn't like was the fact that we had to wait on the bus AGAIN when we were supposed to leave. Then, we waited on a person in the tour group for ANOTHER half hour. Ridiculous on both accounts.
Regardless of the lengthy trip and even the tardy bus drivers, Niagara Falls is a must-see tour when that close!
