We didn't see the bats come out of the cave, but this was likely due to the thick overcast and light rain. BUT we watched thousands fly through the trees and dive towards the water to feed. It was crazy how close they came to the kayak, and so fun to witness. I almost flipped myself the first time one came near me because reflexively I tried to dodge it 🙃, I had to consciously not lean away. This was a fun experience, but not something I would do again because there was a lot of wait time with inactivity. Our guid was very kind and fun to chat with. Oh and there is a time change!! The tour is on eastern standard time, while the cities you are likely to find lodging in are central.

Even before leaving to set off into the water Zach was agreeable and accommodating to my friends special needs adult daughter. He took her out on a tandem kayak and made her feel both involved and independent. During the water adventure Zach was interactive with all members of our party. He gave us a history of the area , the cave and of the bats plight. He was a nature ambassador and environmentalist who led by example in picking up litter without preaching to others . For the three first time kayakers we felt comfortable and confident with our guide. The seasoned kayaker in our group benefited from Zac's local knowledge and information on other trips offered by Chattanooga Guided Adventures.

This was by far the best nature activity we have enjoyed during the 6 years living in Chattanooga. Zack was a fantastic, knowledgable guide. The kayaks and other equipment were top of the line. We saw sooooooo many bats after cruising the area having already seen ospreys, barn swallows, great blue herons and snowy egrets. I’ll probably sign up for another bat in the next few weeks. Excellent activity to share with nature loving family and friends.
