Well this was my mistake. I saw this on trip advisor and it sounded fun. But in all honesty and clarity is key here. This activity might be suited for kids and parents but not really for adults.
Let me clarify my mistakes. We were four couples ranging from 21 to 64 in age. The first turn off was the online ticket purchase mistake when we entered that we were purchasing for two people to go and by my mistake I booked two, two person kayaks. So when I got the receipt for one hundred and forty something dollars immediately called them to tell them my mistake. It had been five minutes. At first there was some confusing push back from the young man on the phone with me, from glow paddle. He explained that we did not buy the cancellation insurance so that was going to be an issue. Our trip was several weeks away well with in twenty four hours so I pushed back hard on the notion that they might not give a refund for the second unneeded kayak. He did refund me for the second kayak mistake. But during the phone call I explained to him that we did intend to purchase the ten dollar cancellation insurance. He said ok and said he would add that and charge me the ten dollars. So the day of the trip when our confirmation said we did not buy it I was confused. In any case we did not have a need to cancel so we arrive. The first thing that struck me is the smell of the lagoon that you are paddling in. I smelled bad. This worried me but we muddled thru. We purchased the ten dollar glow necklace package even though we felt silly. We wanted to make it fun. Had some issues with them. A little frustration there. Move on. We all get to pick out our boats. We get in and the usual adjustment and trying to not top over. We are in very shallow water. We saw about eight small minnows. One person got a little fish and a crab in their boat so that was funny.
But what I noticed was the fussing going on between the pairs. The struggle of who paddles what way and why is the boat rocking so much and then the arguing ending in one of the pair not paddling at all why the other doing it all. A demonstration would have helped. This is a paddle around in your own thing. The lagoon is dark. The only light is the boat lights and some work and some donāt. The visibility from the plastic boats is not clear from the inside of the boat. We had to look over the sides to see anything.
There was nothing bigger than a two inch little non descriptive fish. This might thrill a child but we were all just already at that point over it. We had one rider that was very tall man, over fifty who could not get into this boat because there is a metal bar that you have to be able to get your legs under, with not a lot of room to do it. He had one knee that did not bend well so he ended up with one leg under this bar and one leg over. He found the experience painful and therefor no fun at all. I donāt write this in anger but more from the place of, I wish I had read a review that informed us as consumers that this was not the activity for us and why. Some of the people that worked there were real nice. One was not. Enough said.
I felt horrible that four couples paid almost seventy dollars at my recommendation, to row around in the dark, in a stinky lagoon in boats that did not perform as described. Itās a good idea in theory but in actuality just did not do it for us.
