This is a MUST do if you are on the island and I canā€™t recommend Captain David and his crew enough! One of the nice things about their operation is the size of the boat as it allows you to bring a packed change of clothes and also had a restroom (key for your wife, daughter, etc.). Captain David and his crew are incredibly knowledgeable of the rays, how to find them and the importance of protecting their environment. If you get cold in the water after a short while you can wait on the boat until the rays arrive and then jump in.

We were really excited to do this adventure! And it lived up to our expectations. With wild life you can never be sure they are going to show up when you want them to, but we were lucky to have five Manta's swimming with us. It was an awesome experience. My husband was not interested in getting into the water at night so he stayed on the boat. But the experience was just as awesome for him. My only suggestion would be to rent a full wet suit prior to going if you don't last long in cool water. They offer a wet suit jacket but that didn't provide me with much warmth. We stayed in the water for about 30-40 minutes and I was shivering most of the time. Just couldn't get myself to get out of the water because it was so awesome being that close to the Rays. The crew is great. Answered questions, checked in with the swimmers frequently to make sure people were doing ok, friendly. Definitely worth it!

I personally think it was a great experience overall. It was like being in the aquarium, and ā€œcustomer serviceā€ was really good. The manta rays went really close, and they are not afraid of you, in fact very friendly. They helped you get the pool noodles to your legs. This is an experience that must be seen whenever you go to Big Island.
