Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village, NYC is home to a bevy of beloved institutions, dives and eateries. The spirit of rock & roll is alive at Cafe Wha?, where Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan used to jam. Laughter from comedy clubs can be heard on popular blocks like MacDougal Street. And folks with a case of the munchies can easily cure their sweet and salty cravings thanks to a bevy of excellent restaurants. Take a stroll down Washington Square Park—one of the best NYC parks—and see where the bohemian capital takes you.
3
SoHo
The famously arty neighborhood of the ’70s and ’80s has evolved into one of New York City’s prime shopping districts. SoHo (an acronym for South of Houston Street) still features galleries, though these days the work within them tends toward the more high-end commercial—matching the luxury boutiques and independent-designer outposts that characterize the area.
4
TriBeCa
Manhattan's Tribeca is a neighborhood of cobblestone streets, world-famous restaurants, and historic warehouse buildings that have been converted to multimillion-dollar lofts. Easily one of the city's most expensive areas.
5
Chinatown
Chinatown is both quirky and charming, boasting all sorts of ethnic delights from authentic Chinese restaurants to unique art and handicrafts to peddlers selling ancient Chinese herbs. Exploring the area on foot is a must as many of the wonderful places that deserve a visit are merely holes-in-the-wall and easily missed when driving through.
6
Little Italy
When Italian immigrants moved to this Manhattan neighborhood in the late 1800s, they brought their customs, food and language. That heritage remains evident today—Little Italy’s streets are lined with restaurants serving Italian staples on red-and-white checkered tablecloths. Di Palo’s cheese shop and Ferrara Bakery & Café—known for its cannoli and espresso—are among the long-tenured businesses still operating today.
