We planned our visit for late afternoon to benefit both from daytime and evening views as we had a restaurant reservation for 6.30pm.
On entering the building be warned that there is a little queueing as you must go through airport style security, so those less able to stand for longer periods of time may find this a little challenging, but the queues moved relatively quickly. Once through security you where directed to the lifts, which go quite quickly but there is a great film to watch on the walls, be prepared however fir your ears to pop!
Once you exit the lifts there is an area where again you have a short film with a fantastic surprise at the end, and then on through to the observation floor. It was a lovely clear day, and the views were amazing, you can spend as much time as you want walking around, looking at the various views of downtown or the Hudson River area.
We were a little disappointed with the restaurant, it was very busy and noisy, and although I had made our reservation on the earliest day I could , I think about 5 weeks before our visit our table was not near the window in fact we had 2 other tables between us and the window and the otherside was the bar area which was very busy and noisy. The tables had no tablecloth and ours was very scratched and chipped, we were instantly offered tap water.
Due to medical reasons neither of us drink alcohol but it was a pleasant surprise to see about 6 different mocktails which where about $14 each, I can’t remember the name but we had a watermelon based one which was very refreshing. We ordered the salmon and a chicken sandwich and as you can see from the pictures the salmon came with very few sides and no potatoes! These were an optional extra, the food was good, we followed our main course with a cookie ice cream dessert which was for 2 to share, be warned that 18% gratuity is automatically added to all checks.
After our meal we went back to the observation floor and took some pictures of the evening views.
