Visited the observatory at sunset which was just magical! Plenty of room to move around and see the sights of New York. We found it to be one of the more comfortable observation decks, maybe because we visited later in the day but it offered a totally different experience than the day time. Highly recommend!

There are some attractions that one visits and despite their fame, they just don't deliver. This isn't one of those, the benefit of raising the middle finger to terrorism by doing so is of course justification in its own right, but the sheer breathtaking spectacle is also worth every single penny. When in NYC, make it top of your must-do list, absolutely spectacular!

Great experience from the moment you enter the elevator. You your are traveling in high tourist season, spend the extra USD$22 for the enhanced experience. The value (for me) was VIP (shorter line) entrance to the elevator up and leaving (no line) to the exit We stayed until sunset, with 100’s of others, and the line to the elevator backed up quite a bit. VIP was no line at all. The elevator ride up was 47 seconds with an awesome surround video of how NYC developed from the 1600’s to date. After the quick human intro you get a short video and an impressive surprise (no spoiler here). The view is incredible- no time to try the coffee bar (USD$6 for an expresso but ā€œfreeā€ with your USD$10 gift certificate when you buy a VIP ticket. We did. It use it not tried the drinks. The kids, both teen agers loved the experience.
