We went on the Oahu Shark Dive when staying on the North Shore. It was a fast 30 min drive from Turtle Bay. A quick boat ride out and we were right on the sharks! We saw 2 Galapagos sharks up close & under the cage within 3 feet of us. Amazing! I was very sea sick and the Captain made me feel comfortable telling me it is common & she let me sit on the back of the boat with her on the way back. Super sweet Captain & fun assistant on the boat! Lots of jokes to lighten the mood bc we were all a little nervous. I’m so happy we did this! Once in a lifetime for me! Bucket list checked off!

Our tour was disappointing in that we saw only one shark. But that in itself was cool. A person from another tour came off his boat saying they saw 5 sharks. That is what I was expecting as we took off. The host at the shack was a bit gruff, looked tired and generally not as friendly as you get used to in Hawaii hospitality circles. The crew on board consists of a captain and one other person who tried to make it pleasant by cracking jokes. I found that they were too restrictive about walking on the boat while in transit to the cage and back. It was pretty much take your seats and remain seated until we get there. It’s about a 15 minute ride to the cage which is 3 miles from shore. They offer to take video for $75. I accepted but they never followed up and as far as I know, no video was taken. I didn’t insist because the one shark pretty much didn’t make enough of a cameo to make the cost worth it. These are not great whites; they are galapagos sharks. A thumbs up to the captain for trying to get the shark to surface. She did a good job and I got good video for posterity. I wouldn’t do this again but it may still be worth it to you if you want to actually see a shark fairly close up.

Tim was a very nice guide, we saw sharks, he explained a lot, can recommend him. . But the sea out there is very turbulent, you have to be able to deal with that.
