You can create memorable
moments, scenic photographs, and smiles if you book this hike. As an avid hiker that typically uses intuition or a compass, it was refreshing to have a guide. The main reason is that hiking restrictions are constantly changing with access to the sign. When you book a tour, you learn more and get more for the price. Essentially, priceless.
We went on a Tuesday, slightly overcast and max temp. was 73°. There was a group of 16. Athleticism ranged from avid hikers to couch potatoes. Even those that never walked a block, were able to make it to the iconic sign. We had several resting breaks, the guide was a natural cheerleader for those that struggled and for the hiking experienced, we relished with pictures and conversations. More than half the walk is paved asphalt, the other is flat paved dirt. Sneakers or boots are appropriate. You can wear converse and will likely need reflexology at the end. Flip flops, birkenstocks or heels no-go. Obvious? Nope, because we saw a woman with wedge heels.
Perhaps these tips may convince you to Book Bikes and Hikes Hollywood Tour!
1. Sarah, the guide, is vivacious, high energy, humorous, and passionate with history. Tipping is good karma. My 11 year-old was so impressed with Sarah's presentation that she commented, "Sarah is very personable. That's a nice quality in a woman." Go figure.
2. Best time to go is overcast day. Photos are still beautiful. If it's sunny, it will be hot and uncomfortable and for some unbearable. Bring an umbrella and/or other essential sun-cessories. Don't wing it. Trust this.
3. Sarah shared history, fun facts and Los Angeles knowledge. She would share a story and then ask, "Do you want to know the dark side?" We would say in unison, "Yes." We were a morbid group. You can't learn this stuff unless you're on the tour. Lots of a-ha moments.
4. Views, vistas, photo ops, scenic, angles, IG friendly and picturesque moments.
5. Bring snacks, oranges are best. Electrolytes and water. Don't fool yourself.
6. If you drive, park at Lake Hollywood, 0.1 miles from the meeting point. Security drives in this area all day and you don't want to accidentally get towed.
7. No bathrooms. Not even at Lake Hollywood. No nasty potables. I drove 30 minutes, went to 7 gas stations and 2 fast foods and bathrooms are closed (Covid and L.A. implementation is violating our freedoms). Anyway, you can use in nature but be forewarned.
8. There is no better water-cooler talk than this hike.
9. Totally recommended for bachelor/bachelorette activity (take tequila for a toast at the top). Memorable for couples, families, mature couples or date one or date 100.
10. Booking, email communication and reminders was professional and timely.
Let me know how these tips worked for you.

Thank you thank you thank you for that INCREDIBLE and thorough review! We truly love to hear about the fantastic time you had with Sarah learning about the history of the Hollywood Sign, that you got some truly fantastic photos, and that you loved having someone else lead the way. And we LOVE your suggestion that this would be a GREAT bachelor/bachelorette activity, dates, families... our experiences are all a great way to connect with others, and we're glad we were able to connect with you. (And Sarah says THANKS for tipping!)
