It's Newport -- lots of history and also lots of other choices available other than this rather lame ghost tour. The longest part of the 90 minute tour was the 30+ minutes we stayed at one location listening to stories about Lizzie Borden (yes, that's right -- the one in Massachusetts!). And, amazingly, according to our guide, the company has a plethora of photos that were taken by guests on tours "yesterday." The price isn't too bad ($17 each) and you are walking along the roads of Newport but the "lantern" aspect is a bit overstated and there really weren't any specific incidents of ghost stories to tell at any of the locations. Primarily, aside from the details of the Lizzie Borden murders, there really was not much said about any specific hauntings in Newport. Honestly, this tour seemed more of a tourist trap designed to capitalize on the fame of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventurers but it lacked any real substance. In my opinion, find something else to do with your 90 minutes while visiting Newport.

My boyfriend and I went on the ghost tour of Newport, RI about two weeks ago. The weather was beautiful, the night we went was cool and dry. We met up with our tour guide at the Marriot and there was a large group there waiting. The guide was very nice and was very knowledgeable about the history, stories and legends. We had no idea what to expect since we never did anything like this before but we definitely had a nice time. It was not very scary though, I thought there would be a lot more "drama" involved in the situations and stories and although our guide was a very nice woman, she just didn't grab our attention like I thought she would. Also, you do not go into any of the houses or buildings that are considered "haunted" so that was a big of a letdown (and thus why I gave it 3 stars instead of 4). Overall a good exerience, I would do it again... but don't expect major drama or a "haunted" type walk because it was more historical than anything.

This was the worst walking tour I have ever been on! Our guide, Joan, was not a good story teller, and spent more time trying to convince everyone that ghosts are real than actually telling stories. She even went so far as to pull out an ear scan thermometer to try to convince us that she would be able to tell when spirits were near by. This was followed by photos of spirits we might see on the tour. This was the first time I actually left a tour before it was finished because she was so bad at her job.
