This was a very informative and fun tour. Palm Springs Windmill Tours has only been in business for a couple of months, but they are going all out to make this first rate. The location of the tour building is easy to find along Interstate-10, even for those of us from out of state. First was a series of approximately two dozen pictures showing the history of wind turbines over the past several decades, including dramatic pictures of some spectacular failures. The helpful and friendly guides explained each of these and answered all of our many questions. Then we went out back where we could touch and feel some of the various equipment. Next we climbed into the very new and comfortable tour bus and drove behind the fences to see turbines of various sizes. In some places, this included exiting the bus and getting up close. We also visited a solar project and a natural gas electrical generation plant. We have passed through this area multiple times and always wanted to know more about the wind turbines. After searching online, we chose this particular tour since it was the only one that would allow us to go onsite with the wind turbines. It also appeared to be the only tour company focused only on wind farms. We were not disappointed. This tour is highly recommended and will likely only get better as they gain experience.

Although we have been to the Palm Springs area 5 times before, this was the first time we decided to take a closer look at the windmills that dot the mountains. We had a great tour - in fact we were David's first customer. It started in a small building where we got the background on the whole wind farm story (pictures and narrative), then walked out behind it to see some of the 'pieces' of older units. From there the tour took us past a number of larger ones, with multiple stops for pictures. We then were taken past a solar farm (not inside since it was on private property) and a natural gas backup power plant that was recently built. We finished the ~2 hour tour seeing another solar farm (from the road) and the largest windmills in the valley. If you want to find out more about these huge machines, this is a great tour to learn more about them close up and personal!

This tour couldn't have been much better. We learned a lot about the history of wind energy in the Palm Springs area and then got up close and personal to these awesome machines - off the public roads and behind the fences! Rich and David were great tour guys. Highly recommended.
