Overview

Learning to surf with Sandbar Surf School is a lifetime bucket list thing that you will never forget. We are the premier surf school in California's Central Coast and we have been teaching surf lessons here in Pismo Beach since 1996. We have tons of local surf knowledge as well as many of our instructors are world travelers/surfers. We truly love what we do and you will have the best time in the world going with us. Laugh with us, surf with us and maybe even come to one of our bonfires! We would not only love to meet you from wherever in the world you are from, but we promise that your surf experience with us will be the part of the trip that you can't stop talking about in the days to come.

My brother-in-law decided to check out Sandbar Surf School last minute and we had a blast. Angela was our instructor and she made sure we didn't die. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for something to do while in the Pismo area.

I made a last minute change to my trip and decided to drive up CA 1 on the coast, and I was able to schedule a surf lesson with Johnny 2 days prior on his website, which was totally easy to use. His directions were straight forward, and I booked a motel within 5 min from thew beach. I met up with him and the other person in my group lesson-- a 9 year old boy who was on his 3rd day of lessons. Johnny provided the surf board and wet suit, which fit me very well. The water at Pismo beach was initially chilly but I warmed up very quickly. The location in general is gorgeous, with shops and restaurants right down the boardwalk from where we surfed. Despite the age difference, Johnny was able to instruct both of us according to our abilities (I'm totally new to surfing but in good physical shape) and by the end of the lesson I was able to land several waves firmly atop my surfboard. Overall I was totally satisfied with the instruction-- I asked many questions about optimal foot positioning, body weight, etc, and Johnny was ready to answer all of them, and I saw immediate improvement in my stance and balance. I don't know when or if I'll make it out that way again, but I wouldn't hesitate to book with him any day.
