Overview

Learning to surf with Sandbar Surf School is a lifetime bucket list thing that you will never forget. We are the premier surf school in California's Central Coast and we have been teaching surf lessons here in Pismo Beach since 1996. We have tons of local surf knowledge as well as many of our instructors are world travelers/surfers. We truly love what we do and you will have the best time in the world going with us. Laugh with us, surf with us and maybe even come to one of our bonfires! We would not only love to meet you from wherever in the world you are from, but we promise that your surf experience with us will be the part of the trip that you can't stop talking about in the days to come.

The staff is AMAZING! We had 6 kids take lessons. Best part was instructors got in the water with kids that were struggling.

Jonny and the Sandbar surf instructors created a fun and relaxed vibe from the beginning of the group lesson and the experience only improved from there. Our group was very appreciative of the instructor to student ratio as it allowed for different instruction techniques based on skill and comfort level, without anyone feeling left out. The group lesson elapsed time is supposed to be 2 hours (which is a lot of time on the water regardless) but the Sandbar crew did not seem too concerned with holding to an exact time and I think were mostly excited to hangout and surf with us on the lineup! Instruction and tips were very helpful and easy to understand from all instructors. I highly recommend choosing Sandbar Surf School if you are in SLO county and looking for a lesson!

If you're looking for an epic experience and incredibly knowledgable, fun instructors - Sandbar Surf School is the spot! Right off the bat, the Sandbar team makes you feel right at home and knows how to build hype around learning something new. I really appreciated how thorough this lesson was before even entering the water. The team will take you through warm-ups, stretches, a quick dip in the water to help you acclimate, and important information to know about your board and the water. Their instructor-to-student ratio is awesome, which really helps you feel supported and confident. Even being in a group, you feel as though each instructor is dedicated to your personal success and making sure you are getting the most out of your 2 hours in the ocean. After each attempt, at least two instructors would have the most helpful advice on different things to try. I also appreciated that they get excited about the progress you make and are stoked when you want to try paddling out a little farther to try and ride harder waves. Most importantly, your time with Sandbar feels like you're hanging out with friends more than just your black and white "learn how to surf lesson". They have such a fun community of instructors that genuinely seem to love hanging out with each other. So much so, one of our instructors wasn't even working but decided he wanted to come and surf with all of us anyway! I really felt like that connection brought such an awesome energy to our day. Overall, you can't go wrong with Sandbar Surf School - 10/10 recommend, I can't wait to visit again so that I can get another awesome day in with this group! HUGE thank you to Sandbar Surf School, we had so much fun!
