My husband booked this Viator Whale Watch and Mendenhall Glacier Combo Tour since the one through Princess Cruise Lines was full. We had previously taken an Alaskan Cruise and gone on the Princess approved tour. I was under the impression that the Whale Watching portion would be on a larger boat. I did not review the fine print that listed the tour could be on a catamaran OR a jet boat. If I would have known there was a possibility that it was on a jet boat we WOULD NOT have gone on this tour. When we got to the dock we were told we would be going on the jet boat when there were two larger catamarans sitting there. Our group had enough people to fill a catamaran, but they put us on two jet boats. I was not happy. The reason I would have never gone on this excursion on a jet boat had to do with 2 family members who should not have been on a jet boat at all. The Princess excursions list every detail of what is involved in a tour so people are aware if what is to be expected. There should be an option to pick what type of boat best fits the needs of the customer. Mu husband suffers from chronic pain, many issues with his back, an implanted pain stimulator, as well as many other ailments and should not have been subjected to crashing wake of the jet boat. My daughter in law is pregnant with twins and should not have been on a jet boat at all. I was furious that she had to endure the trip. It was anything but a calm ride. Other boats wake had us bouncing like crazy, the equivalent of banging a uterus with a bat. There better not be any issues with her pregnancy or the babies. The whale watching experience was not the same view as with a larger boat. I feel that I did not get the tour we were expecting. The snacks were a joke. I was not impressed with the "naturalist" commentary. The bus drivers were a bit obnoxious. There is providing information along the way with interesting information, but then there is too much talking and sharing and never shutting up. One bus driver, Archie, was the most annoying. I could not wait to get off the bus. They told us the cost of the tour was half the price of the cruise line tours. This is simply not true, it is a little less expensive. I would have opted for a higher quality tour and been happy to pay more. We did see whales, the only plus was the option to stay at the glacier and be able to leave when you wanted to.
