Overview
Join us for Whale Watching in our cool Alaskan waters and then view one of 38 glaciers from the Juneau Ice Fields - the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier. We guide you on a 2 hour whale watching tour, spotting Humpback whales and other wildlife. Then off to the Mendenhall Glacier to spend some time hiking, watching fish spawn at Steep Creek or enjoy an outstanding view from the Visitor Center. If you are in Juneau all day - you can take advantage of our flexible Glacier Shuttle to get back to town. If you arrive in the afternoon expect to get 90 minutes at the park. But don't worry! The staff was great. We enjoyed the narrative and helpfulness of Russell, Addie, Calvin, and Captain Brendan on Juneau tours & whale watch. Unfortunately, the whales were not as anxious to please. We saw lots of spouts and part of a couple humps, but despite the staffā€™s persistence in trying to make it a more memorable experience, we didnā€™t see more of the whales we followed. We did see a group of seals, though. We were dropped off at Mendenhall Glacier and visited the Visitor Center and hiked to Nugget Falls. We spent about an hour and a half and then took a later shuttle back to the ship.

I chose this tour over the cruise ship tours due to the flexibility at Mendenhall Glacier. The tour company did a great job meeting us at the dock, transferring us to the boat dock, taking us to Mendenhall and returning to the ship. The only reason I can't give a 5 star rating is that our boat captain was new as was the ship mate. We saw one whale only. However that wasn't the problem. The boat captain pointed the front of the boat to the whale which meant that the only people to get good views and pictures were the few, lucky people at the front of the boat. The others behind them were out of luck. On other whale watching boats the captain will turn the boat to starboard or port sides so there are more opportunities for everyone to get a great view.
