The area is home to 11 historic properties and landscapes; 7 are now considered landmarks. The mansions' style and architecture span from the Colonial era to the Gilded Age, and uniquely represent America's social development.

Cliff Walk

The day trip is yours to fill with the mansions that you'd most like to visit. Explore the Breakers and Marble House, two of Newport's grandest mansions and 19th century summer homes of the affluent Vanderbilt family, for truly lavish design. Walk to the French-inspired Elms and Rosecliff or visit the Victorian style Chateau-sur-Mer. Less ornate and extravagant in design, the neighborhood is also home to the Colonial era Isaac Bell House and Hunter House. Visit the Italian-villa style Chepstow or Gothic Revival style Kingscote for additional insight into America's historic architectural styles.

While interior tours of the mansions come at an additional cost not included in your day trip, you are free to purchase tour tickets at any of the mansions. Opt for an audio tour and a single mansion entrance, a combination entrance to multiple mansions, or servant life tour. Alternately, enjoy a free walk around the exterior of the mansions, meandering through the well-kept grounds and enjoying the sweeping views many of them provide. Stroll the beloved Cliff Walk which runs behind the beautiful mansions and along the ocean below. Great Day! We were able to see Marble, Breakers, Rosecliff and Elm houses as well as the green topiaries. We had bought memberships to the Newport Preservation Society and downloaded the audio tours in advance.
