Overview

Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

We had an amazing experience with Desert Highlights canyoneering! Jake was a phenomenal guide. He was so great at making you feel completely comfortable and at removing any anxiety. Safety was at all times the number one priority. He never made us feel rushed and was genuinely having as much fun as us. There was no doubt ever of his ability or his love for the outdoors. We were the last tour of the season and everyone there was just as excited and helpful as if it were opening day! If you are even thinking of a guide in Moab please do not miss the opportunity to use Desert Highlights. You will not be sorry!!

Amazing! Honestly, I was terrified just imagining what I was getting myself into, but Kai was so reassuring and safe, and it was the most exhilarating experience. Kids 14 and 10 both loved it. The hiking was awesome, too. The company was so prepared, accommodating and friendly. I can’t wait to do this again!

This was the first time canyoneering and rappelling for both me and my friend. Our guide, Kira, was fantastic! She obviously knew the area well, and she was so patient and supportive to both of us who had never gone through this experience before. She guided us through every step and stayed friendly and encouraging all the way through. Rains had recently flooded out the trail, and Kira knew exactly the best way to hike back from our adventure. It was the most thrilling, challenging and invigorating experience of my life! Never thought I would try this at the age of 63, and Kira was the best!
