Private History of Old Town Alexandria Walking Tour

Overview
Take an Old Town Alexandria Walking Tour and discover its extraordinary history with a resident historian and owner of DC Military Tours, Tom Schultz. I am a twenty-year resident of Old Town and I enjoy showing off my neighborhood.

Steps from my own home, we will stroll around Old Town Alexandria, a colonial city rich in architecture. We may run into shopkeepers and neighbors whom I know personally. Receive inside knowledge on the local habits and the best tastes and bargains in Old Town. Start your private walking tour at the garden of the Alexandria Visitor’s Center at 221 King Street. This is a dog friendly tour so bring the pooch!

Navigate the colonial streets of Old Town with discoveries at the Athenaeum, Captain’s Row, The Carlyle House, an actual Torpedo Factory, the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary and Gadsby’s Tavern

My excitement for touring Bull Run battlefield, especially for Second Bull Run, was only matched by Tom's excitement wanting to teach my family, friend and myself. He drove us all over the battlefield, answered all of our questions, showed us what and where the significant events were and what the soldiers would have faced. He discussed the strategy of both sides and the impact of such strategies. We just could not have had a more educational, involved and rewarding experience! I hope to have Tom as a tour guide in the future on another battlefield. Johnson Childress

Johnson, Ed, Paul, and Ryan, Thank you for joining me on a discovery at Second Bull Run (Manassas) Battlefield. I'm glad we had such a fine, warm day as it gave us perspective of the experiences of soldiers of both sides. I learned some Civil War facts from each of you as well. Your group was well read and prepared for the day. Thank you and yes, let's discover more Northern Virginia battlefields together in the future. - Tom

Tom was fantastic! Knowledgeable and showed us some hidden gems. We’ll absolutely use him for another tour next time we are in the area.

Tom was a great guide, and so patient answering all our questions. Clearly he knows his History! We would definitely book another one of his tours!
