Richard was a wonderful guide. Incredibly knowledgeable of Key West’s (Conch Republic) unique history, providing an in-depth perspective which can only come from being a third generation, life long resident. A must do tour when you’re in Key West!

This is an excellent tour for architects, property developers, art historians and anyone who wants an in-depth tour of Key West. We enjoyed it, but two hours on a hot and humid day with no breaks for a cooling refreshment was really more than we, and most of our group, could bear. Richard knows his stuff. He is passionate, full of amusing anecdotes, but is in desperate need of an editor to get this walking tour down to a reasonable length. If it had been half as long I would have raved about it. Try it. Enjoy it. But be forewarned, it is a marathon.

Indeed, it has been a warm and humid two weeks in Key West as summer approaches, and we live in a tropical environment. Our Historic Homes and Stories walking tour is outlined and sold as a 2 hour walking tour. Therefore, it can be difficult, when there are multiple guests on the tour, to alter or edit (shorten) the tour since other guests have paid for and have an expectation of a 2 hour tour covering the topics/homes outlined in the tour’s written description. Naturally, in advance of our tours, we strongly encourage guests to come prepared with water, sunscreen, and hat. At the start of the tour, we remind guests that the tour will be 2 hours and cover .7 miles to be sure everyone is comfortable with the timing and length of the tour. We then give clients who arrived unprepared, a few minutes to go and purchase bottled water at a nearby shop before we start the tour. Naturally, along the tour route we make every effort to stop in shaded locations and find areas for guests to sit- especially on warm, sunny days. Unfortunately, because much of our Historic Homes and Stories tour consists of walking in established residential areas, there are few options available for a refreshment stop along the way. However, we do end our tour at the Eaton Street Seafood Market where guests are encouraged to get a cold drink if they need to cool off a bit. Thanks again for joining our tour. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Key West again soon.
