This experience was the thrill of a lifetime. Top notch from the get go when Carter picked us up in the comfortable van to get to Auke bay. We were welcomed aboard by captain Taylor (she’s been at this 12 years!) and naturalist/deck hand/bartender Hannah. Many treats & drinks awaited us..but the best treat was the real goal….whales. We saw some in the distance (as regulated for boats) but at our 3rd stop due to their great local knowledge, the whales came to us! A large group of 6-8 came right close to the boat….they were feeding and one breached. A 3-4 foot salmon was jumping - almost into the boat - and lo and behold the whale group came by again from the other side. Spellbinding and even veteran Taylor was amazed! Extremely grateful to these knowledgeable, capable, helpful and enthusiastic folks.

From being picked up at the cruise pier in a luxury mini-bus to being a maximum of 8 people on a 48’ yacht, we knew we were in for something special. As we headed out from the marina in search of whales, we were provided with a tasty charcuterie assortment and beverages of choice, wine, mimosas, craft beer and soft drinks while our hostess Hannah also provided information about the humpback whales. At the first of three sites we saw a young calf who stayed close to the surface and so came up for breath more frequently. At the second sighting location we observed a few whales but all at a fair distance. It was at our third location that we had the experience of a lifetime as there were several whales coming repeatedly to breathe but then we had a group come close to us from behind really putting on a show as one came past with his head out of the water and another breached less than 50 meters away. In addition, several salmon jumped clear of the water, all less than 10m (some <2) from our yacht. Even our experienced captain Taylor was excited to see them come so close and then they circled around and repeated on the other side. Wow! The total experience was exceptional and the luxury amenities of the yacht would be hard to equal. Everything from start to finish was absolutely first class and comfortable. The

My husband and I did a private luxury whale watch this morning out of Juneau. Lisa was our captain and Jeremiah was our naturalist. This trip was fabulous in every way. The boat was elegant and comfortable. Lots of glass (even on the roof), and the back was open for optimal viewing. The food was amazing...many beverage choices (alcohol/non-alcohol), and the charcuterie board included a delicious smoked salmon dip, crackers, a variety of cheeses, salami, olives and fresh fruit. Of course, the whole point of the trip was to see whales, and we did, in abundance...at least 7 humpbacks in two different locations. At one point, the whales were close enough that we could hear them spout! We also had several close fly-bys by bald eagles, and saw a sea lion hunting quite close to the boat--he (or she) was being harassed by hungry sea gulls. Lisa and Jeremiah were knowledgeable and welcoming hosts. The trip was thoroughly enjoyable and we highly recomnend the Alaska Luxury Tours private whale watch!
