My family visited this place in this summer. we learn a lot of history and know what a great man George Washington is. He is the first president of USA with high moral standard. We purchased a voice guid and visited the place by ourselves. I think it is a good education to my two daughters and myself. ( 21 years and 16 years old). It will take a whole day if you really study and read all materials.

The hardest part about visiting Mt. Vernon is deciding how to spend your day. Here are some things to consider as you plan: 1. The grounds are large and the gardens are amazing. Did you know that Mt. Vernon was originally five farms? Wear comfortable shoes so you can see as much as possible. Consider walking down to the waterfront, visiting the 16 sided barn, the slave quarters, the slave graveyard, and Washington's tomb. 2. Note that the distillery and the gristmill are a short drive from the main plantation and well worth the trip. There are demonstrations on how the gristmill works and the engineering will amaze you. The mill was grinding corn instead of wheat. They were cautious of any visitors with gluten allergies. 3. There are two places to eat on property. The food court has options for fast food and the Mt. Vernon Inn provides a nice sit down experience and a full menu. 4. The gift shops have a huge selection of items for any history lover. There was even a sample sized whiskey you could buy that was made at the distillery. My weakness was their books. 5. Do not miss the view of the Potomac from the front porch of the mansion. There are chairs there so you can take it all in. 6. The museum has interactive exhibits that will provide you with a thorough understanding of the joys, challenges, and heartaches that faced the first family and all who served them. The artifacts, displays, and options for all ages are very well done. 7. Be sure to check the website for special events. Mt. Vernon consistently offers something for everyone!

This place is really great I should have done it before. I did not think that that would be a better trip with all family but it made us feel better after our trip commencing with the announcement we really got chilled with the sound also which was incredible such a sound that took us to our childhood days in high school.
