Privateer Schooner Sailing Tour in Salem Sound

Overview
FAME is annually the #1-rated boat in Salem and the #1 outdoor activity in the entire town, per TripAdvisor. Don't miss the very best of what Salem has to offer! There's more to our town than witches!

FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812 that captured over 20 prizes! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem.

On board our traditional gaff-rigged schooner, you'll get a chance to raise the sails and even steer the boat as we sail Salem Sound and talk about the fisherman, traders, and privateers that played such a central role in the saga of Salem, and of the young United States.

This is a great hands-on adventure — but you can also just sit back and enjoy a beverage and take it all in as we cruise past the historic forts and lighthouses of Salem, Beverly, & Marblehead.

Note: although the captain & crew have plenty to tell you, this is NOT a narrated tour! No children under five allowed.

Once you've had enough of the Salem witches, head out to the water on the schooner Fame. First off, the boat itself is beautiful. The captain and the crew are wonderful -- not only do they sail it well, they share their information about the boat, the area and sailing. The two hours will fly by!

We enjoyed an afternoon cruise on the Schooner Fame, and it was an amazing experience. In addition the great views, we also had a knowledgeable and informative captain and crew, who were also extremely friendly and approachable. We even had the chance to hoist the sails, which was definitely something that I enjoyed. As stated before, it was an amazing experience, and I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone visiting Salem and has the time.

We visit Salem each year and we always include the Schooner Fame on our must do list. We like the sunset cruise. After that we have dinner on the wharf. It's relaxing and a lot of fun. Highly recommend it.
