This was our first visit to Salem so we booked this specific tour to immerse ourselves in the history of the town. It was very touristy with little opportunity to experience actually visiting/seeing historical homes or sites. The best part of this tour was our guide - a History Professor who dressed and spoke as a period character. He was very well-spoken and knowledgeable about the historical events surrounding the 1692 witch trials. Be prepared, however, to stand and listen for the majority of the 90 minute tour. I would not recommend having a child or a person who cannot stand for long periods of time endure this tour as it was no different than standing in a lecture hall listening to a story for an hour and a half.

We keep our tour groups to 35-40 people while other companies go 50 or more. This makes it easier to get to the locations and gives ample time for people to catch the group before the guide starts talking. All of our guides use microphones so they are very loud. The crowds start coming to Salem in mid September. A weekend in October can be witness to 100,000 people a day and you need to prepare for that The trials were 330 years ago and the buildings are gone. The Witch House is the home of Judge Corwin. It's called the witch house because of his ties to the witch trials. We know the site of the executions, but nobody knows what tree was used to hang the witches. Nobody knows if the tree still exists. And the debate rages as to whether they used a tree for the first hanging and then built a gallows. We know the locations of many of the events. Every tour in Salem has the same issue, but at least our tour shows pictures we've found from old books of people's homes and locations where events happened that are too far to walk. We walk about a mile because many locations were centered in the downtown area.

Great tour!! Tour guide was informative & knowledgeable. Perfect to see main town sights while hearing history about them. Probably not best for younger kids, but my group (all mid 20s) enjoyed hearing some history!

Learned a great deal of history during this tour that I was not aware of. Our family absolutely loved it. We visited many of the sites that were on our list and would have not been able to without this tour as everything is separate. Our tour guide did walk a little fast which made it hard to keep up but definitely a tour I would recommend. Truly enjoyed the knowledge shared by our tour guide. Definitely a must do if you're in Salem!
