Overview
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the United States and a thriving cultural center for the Bay Area. Our remarkable collection of painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, and media arts is housed over seven gallery floors in an LEED Gold-certified building designed by the global architects Snøhetta and Mario Botta.

SFMOMA believes the art of our time is vital and shares it with passion and purpose, and that art and the creative process can open minds and help build a better world. Whenever we visit San Francisco we look forward to checking out the newest exhibitions as well as their permanent ones since it’s always such a joyous and intellectually stimulating experience. There is a fascinating photography exhibition: Around Group f.64: Legacies and Counterhistories in Bay Area Photography. The premise is that a few ( now) world renowned photographers met in 1932 and decided to focus their efgorts at mimicking painers by creating photographs that looked like great art. The exhibition ends in June. Check it out!

My wife and I decided to go to this museum for the Amy Sherald exhibit. She is an amazing artist and her technique is very forward thinking in my view. Enjoyed all her paintings on display. The museum is quite large and has 6 floors encompassing many different artists and themes. I must admit I did not care for some but most I enjoyed. Had lunch at the restaurant on level one and it was good. Spent over 4 hours in total.

Well, first of all, I thought the museum of modern arts was going to be something super awesome like the Smithsonian, but the first two top floors are just a bunch of squares are rectangles. I was so disappointed. I was really looking forward to bringing back some cool pictures for my students. But I still will never understand why a square is interesting or a rectangle standing up on its side. I don’t care who the artist was it still boring. So if you’re looking for something interesting I would stay on the bottom two floors. I think it was the bottom two floors where we got to see a Diego Rivera and a Frida and some other really really cool stuff. Overall I would not go back again and there is no way I would pay them $30 again. If you’ve never seen modern art before, just know that you’re looking at a lot of squares and rectangles. I was really disappointed. The only reason we stayed was because we paid the $30.
