San Francisco walking tasting tour with Secret Food Tours

Overview
On our Secret Food Tour: San Francisco, the Mission District, you'll see how immigrants shaped the neighborhood by creating brilliant artwork, beautiful architecture and sharing their fantastic food! Originally home to Irish, German, and Italian immigrants, it is now the epicenter of San Francisco's Latino culture.

The Mission District is full of vibrant murals that offer a visual history lesson featuring themes ranging from cultural heritage to social-political statements. We will take a stroll through the neighborhood to get an up-close experience.

Our tours are more than just the food. Our local guides connect the dots between history, culture, and cuisine to provide you with a deep understanding of the Mission District's thriving culinary scene!

I had a great time on the Secret Food Tour today. I have always wanted to go to the Mission and I feel that I really got to explore the area on foot today. Carly was super organised, very well informed and keen to share her knowledge. Our group was small but perfectly formed which meant that we could all get to know each other which made it a lot more fun. I loved that the food we tried reflected the different cultures in the Mission - there was burrito, Filipino party snacks, oysters, banh mi and ice cream - so something for everyone. I was especially pleased as some of these places were quite famous and had been on my To-Visit list for some time. There was a combination of eating in and eating on the sidewalk which made it more fun and the walking was totally flat which is always a bonus. Finishing at the park with the amazing view of the city was just the icing on the cake! Highly recommended!

I’ve given 5 stars, because the food was good and plentiful. However, I was missing a good structure or story to the tour. We weren’t given an introduction so we had no idea what to expect, and we weren’t told WHY we were stopping at the places we were. We started by eating a burrito (delicious, and the cooks were mesmerizing to watch), them we moved on to Philippino fried spring rolls, then oysters, then Vietnamese sandwiches and finally ice cream. We stopped at various murals along the way, which was very interesting, but I would have liked more background on the neighborhood, it’s culture and history. Also, only two of the stops allowed us to sit down and enjoy the food, the rest we had to eat standing and even walking from one spot to another. That said, the food was very tasty and our guide was friendly and welcoming. I just felt that a little more planning and information at the start of the tour would have helped my enjoyment of it.

I so enjoyed this food tour in the Mission district. This is an area where I would not have gone on my own and even if I had, I would not have known where to go. Carly, our lovely tour guide, took us through the neighborhood with ease, giving us a commentary along the way. Just loved the murals and their beautiful colors. The food choices were all great and diverse, just like the Mission neighborhood itself. Many thanks to Carly for giving me such a memorable experience. I chose this tour based on the favorable reviews and now I highly recommend it myself.
