Savannah's Laurel Grove Cemetery Tour

Overview
Often called The Hidden Gem & is the local's favorite cemetery!.This former plantation turned 67-acre cemetery, is Savannah's most pristine, gothic and untouched that sold out in The Victorian Age. It contains more stylized mausoleum chapels than any city cemetery, has the area's true Civil War sections, including prominent Gettysburg heroes, and is a refuge to the city's grandest and most decorative ironwork fences. It was the most inclusive of all of the cemeteries ranging in the city's wealthiest right down to a Stranger's Lot, Jewish section, slave section, Babyland, best representing the small tight-knit city. The cast of characters includes Girl Scout's founder, Juliette Low. Jingle Bell's author, James Pierpont. Savannah's original greeter, The Waving Girl. An ironclad shipbuilder, Henry Willink. Author Kahlil Gibran's benefactress, Mary Haskell. Great Women's History here. Most days our tour is the only group of living found in the cemetery giving it an incredibly private feel!

This cemetery is truly breathtaking and far less trespassed than any other tourist attraction in Savannah, which only adds to its charm. I don't know how it has flown under the radar with a history that includes many of Savannah's most noteworthy people. The historic monuments, mausoleums and sculptures are just as stunning as the local favorite, Bonaventure, and the scenery is perfectly picturesque. Laurel Grove feels as though you've broken into a historic vault or temple where sacred ruins and mysteries await. I am thrilled that tours are now available for the first time, ever. Shannon Scott Tours never disappoints. His tour guide, Richard, provides the perfect Savannah experience for anyone looking to understand this beautiful city and its past. He knows the secrets and forgotten tales of Laurel Grove, and he will make the trip worthwhile. The location is practically in the historic downtown area, so it's easily accessible, and it's easy to walk through. I definitely recommend this tour!

For our first review we're truly honored and grateful for your sharing your thoughts. Currently visitors only think about Bonaventure but have no clue this is in many ways, more beautiful and fascinating from a purely cemetery standpoint. The traveler would serve themselves to see both and we thank you for helping us to encourage others to explore this unknown empire cemetery!
