As the Pigeon River comes out of the steeper parts of the gorge it calms down a bit. Beginning at our outpost, the Lower Section of the Pigeon River is perfect for those looking for a scenic float trip of the Smoky Mountains. Ages 3 and up. Experience is not required, and each raft will have one of our professional guides.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Minimum age: 3 years old
Guests will then meet their personal guide and recieve the necessary equipment,
Including a PFD (aka life jacket), helmet and paddle.
After your guide double-checks to make sure all equipment is fitted properly, guests then hop on our bus for a short 10-minute ride to the launching point for your trip.
All guest must have secured shoes on, NO FLIP FLOPS / NO BARE FEET

We had a great experience! Great customer service with quick replies to emails during the booking process. Friendly & helpful staff the day of our trip. Cool facilities & fun guides. Glad the Lower float had a few mild rapids. Perfect for younger kids to get a taste of rafting so that we can go back when they're older & do the more adventurous Upper Pigeon River.

Our trip down the lower Pigeon River was amazing! Our guide, Wild Man Jack, was friendly and professional. He taught our 10 yr olds how to steer the raft and they are still talking about the experience 5 days later! We cannot wait to go back!

We had the best experience on our Upper Pigeon Whitewater rafting trip! We went with part of my sons baseball team so we were split into different groups. Alyssa was with my group which had little kids and she was awesome with them and made them feel comfortable and relaxed. Alyssa was very knowledgeable and professional and made our trip one we will never forget!!! Wesley was the tour guide with my sons group which was a boat full of 12 year olds and they absolutely loved him! He made it very exciting for them! My son said this has been the highlight of our trip and already asked to go back tomorrow!! We will definitely use Big River Expeditions the next time we come to Gatlinburg!! Thank you Alyssa and Wesley!!!
