Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge
The Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge is a manatee sanctuary nestled in the heart of Florida's Nature Coast. Spanning over 80 acres, this refuge is a haven for an array of wildlife, offering visitors a captivating glimpse into the region's natural wonders. One of the refuge's most enchanting features is its resident population of West Indian manatees. These gentle giants, often referred to as "sea cows," seek refuge in the warm spring waters of Crystal River during the winter months, making it one of the premier destinations for manatee viewing in the United States. A resident herd of 40-60 manatees make the refige home year round. Beyond the manatees, the refuge is home to a diverse array of bird species, including herons, egrets, ospreys, and bald eagles. Birdwatchers will delight in the opportunity to spot these majestic creatures as they soar overhead or wade through the shallows in search of food. Join us on a boat safari into this amazing preserve and see for yourself.

Whilst this was a little different to what I was expecting, our lady captain did an excellent job of finding us manatees and other wildlife to see. For some reason I was expecting to go farther out on the water rather than the very busy waterways. We saw lots of manatees, some with babies and some other birds as well. We had a really enjoyable time.

Yes the waterways are quite busy especially during manatee season! Sometimes we have to go further than normal to spot the manatees, but it all depends on where they are hanging out that day! Sometimes it's by someone's dock or sometimes they are out in the grass flats of the bay! We just never know! We are glad you had an enjoyable experience!

Got to see a lot of wild life. The captain gave some information but compared to a previous experience we had where the guide talked and pointed out a lot of other things she didn’t do as well. The last guide we had gave more interesting wildlife information.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you got to see a lot of wildlife, but we apologize that you feel your captain was lacking in the educating aspect. We hope you come back, and you can always request captains to make sure you get who fits what you want your experience to be!
