What To Expect
1
African Burying Ground
The burial ground is said to be the largest of its kind in the United states and it’s believed that over 200 people from the African American community were buried here.
2
John Paul Jones House, part of the Portsmouth Historical Society
Originally built in 1758 the old John Paul Jones house holds more ghosts than a than a Maine boat holds lobsters. Some say old John Paul Jones lingers in the room he once slept. Others have seen an angry spirit opening cabinets and slamming doors.
3
The Music Hall
Over the past century world renowned acts have graced its halls including the magician Harry Houdini, gun swinging Buffalo Bill Cody and that clever fella Mark Twain. The shows were so good that the ghosts decided to stick around.

Horrible experience! The maps and directions were all over the place. Not even worth the $7. It would be better if they just had a map with information and you just walk around

Hi Lakeisha, I don't have you registered as taking our tour or using our app :( . I am sorry to hear your issue, and I'm guessing you had the Viator app and tried it there? The pace was perfect, and having never walked around Portsmouth before, it was a good way to stumble across some cool places/shops, etc. We really liked how it knew when you got to the next place and started talking about it automatically. Between stops it gave a bit of history on Portsmouth which was great for filling the time while walking to the next location. Directions were clear and easy to follow, and the green direction arrow made it impossible to get off track. The only thing I didn’t think of was bringing headphones/earbuds to hear the narrator better over traffic (the site does recommend headphones, but I missed that part). Most of the stops aren’t in busy areas so this wasn’t really an issue anyway. We also did this tour during the day, but obviously it would be more immersive and creepy at night. Either way, highly recommend to anyone that enjoys history or the paranormal!

Underground railroad was interesting to learn that the graves were found under the road. Loved the tribute memorial
