Poipu Beach Surf School is committed to providing each of its guests with a safe, fun, friendly surfing experience.
We take pride in providing top quality service, our instructors take pride and joy in introducing you to the ancient art of Hawaiian wave riding. A great activity for people of all ages.
Poipu Beach Surf School teaches people how to surf at the Sheraton Beach in Poipu. It is very safe, with only four people per instructor. Instructors also stay with the surfers for the full lesson, never leaving them alone in the ocean.

Instructors start out with a 10-15 minute land lesson at Poipu Surf (2829 Ala Kalanikaumaka St h151 Poipu, Hi. 96756), educating surfers about the surfboard, how to paddle the board, how to stand up, closing with ocean safety tips. The rest of the lesson is spent in the water catching waves.

It was wonderful! Andrew and Mica were informative and encouraging. The hour and a half went by quickly but I was tired from all the paddling. So glad we tried, a bucket list item checked off. Highly recommend. We ended up doing a group class (4 students per instructor) it works well since you have to paddle back out, very little wait time. My complaint is with some other operation giving a private lesson and he seemed to send his student right into our group; nothing Poipu Surf had control over. So glad we went & wish we could have gone more!

Poipu Beach Surf School offered great lessons for a beginner surfer. My husband and I got the semi private lessons (just the two of us) and after a short video at the surf shop we followed our instructor to the beach which was a short drive away. We had to carry our own boards down to the beach, so that was our warm up, haha. Then our instructor gave us a quick briefing on how to paddle out towards him and where to surf into the beach as to not run into other surfers and avoid paddling directing into oncoming waves. I appreciated this quick talk on the beach and the ability to get in the water right away, the best way to learn is to just jump right in. After a few tries I was able to stand up and actually surf!! It was amazing! Our instructor helped us out by pushing us into the wave and when we were on our own attempting to catch "bigger" waves out further he helped by telling us when to start paddling. It was a blast and I was so excited to actually get the hang of it so quickly. Thanks to this lesson I am hooked on surfing and I can't wait to try it again!
