Loved the 'Real Alaska' tour. We are normally not tour bus kind of people as we enjoy exploring on our own and at our own pace. This tour however was great. I have a new appreciation for the grueling nature of the Iditarod now. I always sort of felt like the dogs were being forced to run, but after seeing their excitement when the handlers starting bringing out the gear, I realized that they love doing what they do. In addition to the visiting with the dogs and puppies, we also experienced Exit Glacier up close and personal and got to see a salmon spawning area. Wonderful!

We took the "Real Alaska" tour which included visiting the sled dog lot, holding puppies, riding in a cart pulled by the dogs, lunch, hiking to the toe of Exit glacier, watching sockeye salmon spawn and a driving tour of Seward. It was great to learn about the Iditarod from people who actually do it and their passion for the sport really shines. It was great to experience how much the dogs live their job! Our tall and slim guide Joe Allen really personalized the trip with facts about AK and a lot of great personal stories. We came to Seward the day before leaving on a cruise and I highly recommend this tour! The bar for the rest of our stay in Alaska has been set very high!

Take this tour!!!! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska! The sled dog ride was great! It gave us an idea of the pace of a sled dog ride through Alaska. They explained the Iditarod and we were able to play with the puppies (I am a cat person and still enjoyed myself). Part of the tour was to Exit Glacier....amazing!!! After a hike through icy cold water we were able to touch the glacier and drink glacier water! If you get Joe Allen as your guide you are in for a real treat! Do whatever he says, he will make your trip memorable. Best guide from our entire 14 day trip!
