What To Expect

City Brew Tours Pittsburgh
We will pick you up at 112 Washington Place to start your unforgettable craft beer journey. We couldn’t count how many bridges & tunnels we traveled in search of the best craft breweries and beer Pittsburgh has to offer. If it weren’t for Pittsburgh being split by 3 rivers, there’s a good chance there may not be enough water to support this many breweries in one city! From the smallest, newest nano-breweries to independent craft breweries with age-old history, we sought out the brewers who helped bring craft beer to the ‘burgh and focused on developing strong relationships with each of them so we could give you unfettered access to their spaces and suds. Our tour itineraries vary amongst several great breweries including Strange Roots, Allegheny City Brewing, Couch Brewing and other described below.

Inner Groove Brewery
This is a sample itinerary, all schedules are subject to change. During the musical heyday of the ’60s and ’70s, bands used to place hidden messages and secret songs on the ‘inner groove’ of vinyl records. At Inner Groove Brewing, you won’t find any hidden messages but you will find a wealth of great beer. Inner Groove opened its doors in June of 2019 as the brainchild of two husband and wife couples. Tim & Kelly Melle and Kevin & Jennifer Walzer founded the brewery as a representation of their passion for great beer and good music. Nestled in the town of Verona, Inner Groove is poised to become a vital part of the up-and-coming quaint neighborhood just north of the Steel City.

Hop Farm Brewing Company
Hop Farm Brewing Company is a woman-owned, family-run brewery in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. At Hop Farm, they are dedicated to the responsible use of our natural resources, from production to packaging and everywhere in between. They are proud Pittsburgher’s who look to source local wherever possible, whether in the brewhouse or the kitchen.

Jesse was our host for the evening. He was an excellent host. He took good care of his increasingly inebriated crew. He got the ball rolling with a nice ice breaker. We went to 4 very different breweries. We had a light meal at the second one. Don't go into this with the expectation you will like every beer they serve. There are so many different kinds of beers: lagers, sours, IPAs, hazies, porters, etc. Some you will like a lot. Some not as much. There may even be one or two you don't like at all. But, that's why you are on the tour. This experience will expand your beer horizons. I even made a new Facebook friend. Hope you get Jesse if you book! His cruise ship experience shines through. He guided us through our experiences, encouraging us and adding his extensive knowledge of beers, beer making, and the different venues to make our experience the best it could be. He is definitely no sloth!

This tour took 5 couples, who didn't know each other, on an adventure to drink the 3rd largest consumed beverage in the world. That was a fact given to us by Brian our chauffeur/driver for the evening. The varieties of beer were enjoyed and the food at Penn Brewery was delicious. As a Pittsburgher I couldn't believe someone never ate pierogies! Another fact is people from San Antonio, TX want to move here for the cooler weather. But of course there was the one couple who want to make Florida their home. Trying different beers and visiting different parts of my town with other beer lovers was a great way to spend the evening. The pickup location downtown was convenient to the T because there was enough beer that public transportation was a good way to get home.

I have been on quite a few brewery tours and this one would fall under the excellent category. Our guide Jesse was knowledgeable about beer obviously, but he was also well versed in the different style and what makes each one unique. This made for some good beer chat. Also interesting about this tour was that Jesse had free range of the breweries to show us around and explain how everything works. Not all brewery tours work that way. We also had a chance to speak to the brewers as well. Our particular tour was at 11:30am on a Saturday and our stops were Mindful Brewing Co. Spoonwood Brewing Company, Allegheny City Brewing Co, and Eleventh Hour Brewing Company. All the beer at each location was unique and rather tasty. No shortage of beer either, so don't worry about that. Also, we were served lunch at Spoonwood brewery which I HIGHLY recommend. The food and beer pairings were perfection! It was a great time and I would certainly recommend City Brew Tours. I will book more tours through them since they have multiple cities.
