What To Expect

Fortress of the Bear

As a part of our Private 4x4 Truck Tour you can choose admission to the Fortress of the Bear. Your guide will be with you the entire time and guide you through the attraction being available to answer questions and offer a unique, exclusive experience. We have set appointment times for access to avoid the large bus crowds and expedite access to the Fortress.

Harbor Mountain Trail

One option, depending on the weather, is a trip up Harbor Mountain Road in our 4x4 Truck to see the astounding beauty of Sitka Sound from high on top of the mountain. This institution is an equal opportunity provider" and is operated under a special use permit with the Tongass National Forest

Alaska Raptor Center

This tour includes two admissions per guest. The Alaska Raptor Center is one option guests can choose. The Alaska Raptor Center is World Renown for it's rehabilitation of Eagles and other Raptors. Guests will have access to the presentations, exhibits and trails while visiting

Starrigavan Recreation Area

Although we vary our tours by the day, choosing the best location for the time of year, seasonal wildlife viewing opportunities, or weather, Starrigavan Recreation Area is one of our frequent stops. This is one of our wheelchair accessible stops. A variety of habitats can be found at Starrigavan Recreation Area. Look for great blue herons, bald eagles, common mergansers, belted kingfishers, canvasbacks, mallards, buffleheads and many other birds along the Estuary Life Trail, a barrier-free ¼-mile boardwalk. Coho and pink salmon return to Starrigavan creek from July through September, attracting the occasional river otter or brown bear. Watch for Sitka black-tailed deer and brown bears on the ¾-mile Forest and Muskeg Trail. Our guide was super friendly. She took our request for seeing the real side of town and getting away from the crowds seriously. We got to the top of a mountain and then saw waterfalls and found berries and saw otters and eagle in heaven. She stopped for great photos and squeezed in a visit with the bears. We were happy to spend time with her. Made great memories we’ll never forgot.

Bumble Expeditions came to the rescue when our shore excursion booked through the cruise ship was canceled very last minute. They sent Joe super quick for this private experience. Joe was a super nice guy and was very information and funny. He was willing to be spontaneous and stop wherever we wanted to stop. But - and this is my suggestion to anyone else booking this tour - have an idea of exactly what you want to do with your 2.5 hours of this tour. We had some general ideas but was also looking to Joe for some guidance. And he did a fantastic job given the little guidance we gave him. And the weather also prevented us from doing a few things we had hoped to. Ultimately, our tour ended a little early but at no fault of Joe or Bumble. The price is pretty steep given the length of time and that this can only be for 4 people - so come with ideas and plans and make the most of your time in Sitka!
