Savannah Sunset at Six Flags Wild Safari held great promise but ultimately left us disappointed. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the ā€œglampingā€ tents are comfortable and well appointed. While appreciated, these were to be expected given the high cost of staying at the resort. What was not expected was checking into our room and finding leftover food from a previous guest in the cabinet. It was also surprising how long food orders took to be processed given the small number of guests on site (1 hour for bacon and eggs with toast). Perhaps most disappointing was the fact that safari park access was much more restricted than one might have expected given the price of stay. They offer a brief giraffe feeding first thing in the morning and a single resort only park tour by truck that lasts about an hour. If you want to see more of the animals, you either must pay $90+/head for a VIP visit or use your park pass to join the regular line at the entrance Wild Safari entrance (this reached 4.5 hours wait time by early afternoon while we were there).

This place is the epitome of squeeze you for as many dollars as possible for a not so thrilling experience. Total cost for 8 people, 2 of which are young children- $250. But no, there’s more. No longer can you drive through this safari to see animals. Instead, wait on long long line me to board a Safari tour vehicle. How long? Easily 1 hour. Want to skip the lien? No problem. Pay anotgrr $160. Oh, also factor in food costs. A foot long frankfurter? $16.49 eachplus tax. For the family you’re looking at another $180 for a substandard lunch. Could be $75 a person for a trip to this zoo and of course it’s partly the fault of stupid people who used to get out of their cars and feed animals, making this place into a pure moneymaking adventure. Why bother?

The safari is worth a drive through at least once in your life. You see animals from all over the world up close. If you move along fairly quickly (5 mph speed limit), you can make it through in an hour or so. If it is your first visit, it might take you longer. It is best to visit in the morning as the animals are usually most active. You need to be mindful of animal crossings and keep all doors and windows closed. The ostrich will peck at you!
