A group of four of us booked this tour (two adult couples). The tour van picked us up shortly after 11:00 am. John O greeted us warmly and made us feel very welcomed. The tour included stops at a coffee farm (where we ate lunch), black sand beach, bakery, winery (where we ate dinner), and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. It was a beautiful scenic drive. Throughout the drive John O provided a detailed history about our surroundings as well as customs and traditions about the Big Island. During our tour at the coffee farm we were given the opportunity to sample various coffees. We were fortunate enough to be able to get some fabulous photos of turtles on the black sand beach. The bakery stop allowed for opportunity to purchase great tasting baked goods. The winery was pleasant. After the wine tasting each individual was permitted to select their choice of complementary glass of wine to accompany dinner. The dinner provided was barbecue (chicken and pork), pasta salad, cole slaw & rolls. The last part of the tour was the volcano after sunset. We had an amazing view. The day was truly a wonderful journey. We arrived back from the tour shortly after 9:30 p.m. Snacks and drinks were also provided throughout our excursion. John O encouraged questions and had a very pleasant disposition and made us feel very much at home. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

We spent a full day with 10 a.m. pick up from Waikoloa Kingsland with John O. and he did a fabulous job for us and the other five couples so 12 people in all. He is an amazing tour guide and knows the island well and only has one rule you must have fun on his bus. 1st stop at Bayview Coffee farms which is under new owners and is updated for a quick lunch and a look at the bay where Capt. Cook statue is from way up. They do have a spotting scope on the deck they let you use to see it. Breathtaking view too. Lunch is just a sandwich and chips you select sandwich in advance and then a soft drink. Nice gift shop and good coffee of course to try and buy if you like. Great tour of the south side with stops at Panalu (sp?) to see black sand beach and turtles (which there may be several or more or maybe not) but beach is worth seeing and it is a state park too. Then over to bakery in the town Naalehu (southern most town in US) where you can buy treats to eat or relax and take some pics. Then back on bus to drive around south end of island and head up to Volcano national park. All along the way John O will tell you many stories and interesting facts about volcanoes, hawaiian history and more very entertaining. Dinner stop is at Volcano winery one of only two wineries in the state other is in Maui. Wine is ok and the food is good you can go to shop and buy some or send home by shipping if you wish. Then off to see the crater, steam vents, and lava tube. Final stop is at the visitor center for the national park and to see the incredible glow of the new crater pretty amazing. Be aware it can be quite cool and windy up there despite being 80 degrees at the lower altitudes by the sea. BRING a jacket you won't be sorry you did. Then back on the bus for trip home via Hilo and over the mountains (volcanoes) back to Waikoloa and the other drops a bit later in Kona if you have group members from there. Worth the money and reccommend to friends but ~11 hours so a bit of a long day.
