Our professional guides provide an interesting narration of the local wildlife and ecosystem. The tours can range from 2 persons to 16 people, and are approximately 2 to 2 -1/2  hours long.  The tours will primarily operate in the protected waters and mangroves tunnels of the Shell Key Wildlife Preserve in Pinellas County. My son (24) and I really enjoyed kayaking with our super friendly guide; Justin. The location- Ft. DeSoto State Park, is a great place to see by kayak. We went through two amazing mangrove tunnels, and ended up on a little island, where we took a refreshing swim. The winds picked up, so were taken back to the launch site via boat. We viewed the boat ride as a fun bonus. We would recommend this tour if you like to be active and out on the water.

We made a reservation and twice it was cancelled two days in a row for “high winds”. Yesterday there was no wind and today at the launch site there are other kayak places going out so We confused on why our trip was cancelled. Today we are waiting at the launch site we called three times no answer. Finally someone calls us back and says they called us and left a voicemail saying it was canceled which is complete bs. You could just be straight up with your customers. Totally unprofessional and lazy if you ask me. Now we can’t even get on another kayak trip because you have to book 24 hours in advance. Thank you for wasting our time!

Amanda, we are truly sorry to have disappointed you. We always make several attempts to contact customers regarding cancellations. We were indeed dealing with a string of days with persistent winds that were forecast to build quickly. So even though the winds seemed light, they would have caught us suddenly out on the island, and it would have been a nightmare trying to kayak back. Yes other tour companies may go out anyway, regardless of conditions. They want your money. We care more about the experience we deliver. That matters to us above all else.

We scheduled a tour for Wednesday and it was cancelled due to “high winds”. There was maybe 5 mph winds. As someone who has kayaked before, the winds would not have been a problem. We rescheduled to Thursday morning and got to the site 30 minutes before to be left standing there with no one showing up. We called multiple times and when we finally got a call back we were told he called and cancelled earlier this morning, after we already left for the site. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Kristina we did have a couple of days where the winds forecast called for quickly building winds. Sometimes the cancellations are indeed last-minute because the forecasts are not always trustworthy. Even though winds seemed light at the time of departure, we need to know that we have at least a 3-hour window of acceptably winds. Otherwise, we would be out on the island, and suddenly fighting a 17mph wind and outgoing current trying to get home. Kayaking the Shell Key preserve is unlike kayaking elsewhere, and we care about your safety, and having a great experience. We apologize about the late notice, but sometimes weather uncertainties make life difficult for us.
