Small-Group Clear Kayak Tour in Shell Key

Overview
We've created a fascinating kayak tour in St Pete, centered on our Crystal Clear kayaks, giving you a fascinating look at the sea life throughout Shell Key preserve, and Fort Desoto park. Our professional guides provide an interesting narration of the local wildlife and ecosystem. The tours can range from 2 persons to 16 people, and are approximately 2 to 2 -1/2  hours long.  The tours will primarily operate in the protected waters and mangroves tunnels of the Shell Key Wildlife Preserve in Pinellas County. An 1,800 acre preserve, these waters are well traveled by Dolphins, Manatees, Rays, as well as a variety of shore birds, including pelicans, egrets, herons, cormorants, osprey, and sometimes roseate spoonbills.

First rate adventure. I scheduled the tour for a Saturday during our recent trip to Clearwater Beach. To my surprise, as we were on our way to the gate after we landed in Tampa, I got a call from Sebastian informing me that the weather on Saturday was going to be bad for the trip and asking me if I wanted to reschedule for Friday which was going to be a better day. Talk about being on top of things. We rescheduled for Friday and got to the launch site at about 1:00 for the 1:30 tour. Our guide was Justin and we couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable, polite, or personable guide. He was terrific. The area you kayak in is protected and pretty shallow so you can clearly see to the bottom and spot shells and sea life. Our party of 5 kayak's paddled out to the mangrove areas, went through several mangrove tunnels, saw a flock of white pelicans, many Conch's, small fish, crabs, etc. The half way point was Shell Key where we explored the white sand beach, found some neat shells, took pictures and enjoyed the warm water. Despite all of the paddling the trip was relaxing, beautiful, and a lot of fun. Although there are other outfitters offering kayaking trips I highly recommend Island Ferry because of the clear kayaks, personable and professional staff, and of course, Justin D.

We had a great afternoon on this very cool guided tour through and around the mangroves. Our guide was very engaging and kept us on pace. The clear kayaks gave a whole new window into the world.
