Small-Group Clear Kayak Tour in Shell Key

Overview
We've created a fascinating kayak tour in St Pete, centered on our Crystal Clear kayaks, giving you a fascinating look at the sea life throughout Shell Key preserve, and Fort Desoto park. Our professional guides provide an interesting narration of the local wildlife and ecosystem. The tours can range from 2 persons to 16 people, and are approximately 2 to 2 -1/2  hours long.  The tours will primarily operate in the protected waters and mangroves tunnels of the Shell Key Wildlife Preserve in Pinellas County. An 1,800 acre preserve, these waters are well traveled by Dolphins, Manatees, Rays, as well as a variety of shore birds, including pelicans, egrets, herons, cormorants, osprey, and sometimes roseate spoonbills.

My wife and two of my daughters joined me for a 2.5 kayak tour of the mangroves around Shell Key. Our guide was kind, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. The mangroves themselves were wonderful - very much a hidden world in an area I though I knew well. I recommend paying attention to their advance notices, and understand you will be engaged in some reasonably strenuous paddling. Nothing my kids couldn't handle - in fact, they loved it. Yet the tour does require some physical effort. We are open to doing the same exact tour again, as it was just so interesting and enjoyable. If you want to see a part of the area that most people just boat on by, take a morning or afternoon and go. You will enjoy!

The guides were very informative and helpful. Loved the wildlife the stop/walk on the beach at the island. The horseshoe crabs and hermit crabs were interesting.

Best part was being outside kayaking. We kayak in Michigan but not like this. Not much of a tour guide. Nice but didn't really engage with anyone.

Lisa we're sorry you were a bit disappointed with our experience. Yes we are more expensive than the other kayak tours, but we do use clear transparent kayaks, making for a very different and unique experience compared to the less expensive alternatives. In this busy spring break season, it is sometimes difficult to engage with every single individual in the group despite the tour guides' best efforts. Keep in mind they are also focused on finding wildlife, providing an informative narration on the history and the ecosystem, and looking out for your safety. They have a passion for kayaking, and they love engaging with people. I'm sorry that did not come through in your experience.
