What To Expect
1
Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

The tour was wonderful! Our tour guide Robert was skilled, knowledgeable, informative, and fun. Unfortunately we did not get to take the helicopter ride due to weather but the rest of the tour was very enjoyable. We would definitely do it again and would highly recommend Detours of Arizona. The bus was very clean and comfortable, they provided water, and had scheduled stops for bathroom and snack breaks. We were always updated on travel times and encouraged to let our guide know if we needed more time or additional stops. Robert was very accommodating to all of us during our time together.

It's impossible to comprehend the enormity of the Grand Canyon without a helicopter flight. Hovering above the beautifully sculptured canyon, one is overcome by the Creator.

This was a great way to see the Grand Canyon! Mark was a FABULOUS, FANTASTIC and knowledgeable tour guide. He was on time to pick me up at 6:15am from the hotel. However I was a bit perturbed I was originally told they could pick me up from my Hilton Phoenix Airport Hotel and I had to Lyft (at 5:30) to the Hilton Garden Inn in Tempe. Minor inconvenience. Anyway, the Detours van was comfortable with waters and a spot to charge my phone. Mark made several stops along the way for food, gas and stretching our legs. He pointed out pertinent landmarks and answered all questions. He was prompt with dropping me off and picking me up at the airport for my helicopter ride (maverick rides). The staff at Maverick were really nice as well. They ladies at the front desk even brought product out from the back and helped me search for specific heart shaped necklace! Everyone wore masks and I felt safe during these pandemic times. The helicopter ride is worth the extra money for the once in a lifetime view of the Grand Canyon. Overall this was a fantastic tour and company. When the time comes, I will use them again.

Allow us to thank you for this fabulous and fantastic review! Mark certainly knows his way around out beautiful Southwest. The Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon is one of the most surreal experiences we have to offer - it is truly life changing. We are delighted to hear about your experience. We hope to see you again soon! Until then, Nathan DETOURS
