What To Expect
1
Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

The van we rode in was Very clean and had nice big windows!!! Our driver/tour guide Richard was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Our Maverick helicopter ride was breathtaking and we enjoyed the knowledge we received from our pilot, Dan.

Bus and tour led by Les was informative and he should get a commision from the state of Arizona for his promotion of the region. Disappointment is with Maverick - they continue to sell 2 inside seats in the back of the helicopter with no ability to look down into the canyon - if you end up in these 2 seats you will be disappointed. This issue has been documented by others but Maverick will act surprised that the experience from these seats was lousy. If in the other seats then helicopter is good.

Hello and thanks for reaching out with your experience with DETOURS! Les is one of our most knowledgeable guides here at DETOURS, even we're still learning from him to this day! We are sorry to hear about your Maverick experience - in the past, have also heard nothing but great feedback on the view points on the helicopter. We do know that they are designed with big reaching windows to ensure that everyone gets a good view from their seat, regardless of where they are sitting!

I booked a day tour by coach from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. 4 hours drive each way + time to get all the passengers, let's say a total of 10 hours in the coach. It has been an appalling experience unfortunately as the vehicle was very very old, noisy, squeaking, the schock absorbers out of use. A 10 hour trip in these conditions is very very long, believe me. Detours is showing no respect for its clients and is way too greedy, this lack of quality is not acceptable. I paid 191 USD for the trip and it was not worth it. I complained to the driver and to the hotel which recommended me Detours. Rent a car or use another company if you plan to tour the Grand Canyon from Phoenix.

Hello Gilles - thank you for reaching out again to us about your experience. As we stated in response to your Google review, we have reached out to several other guests who were on your tour to the Grand Canyon on February 16th, as well as your tour guide Dan Cotton. We have not heard these claims from them - quite the opposite actually, as it seems everyone else enjoyed this particular tour. If you were to look at the other reviews on our Google review page and here on TripAdvisor, you will read that nearly every single one of them are a 5 star rating with similar comments, with the excuse of a handful of 4 star reviews which have mostly great things to share as well. It is difficult for us to support your claims as we imagine the entire vehicle would be reporting the same issues with us. This does not seem to be the case. We take pride in taking good care of our vehicles and ensuring guest comfortably and safety above all else. As you stated in your previous review, 8 hours in a vehicle is a long time. We know this, and we do what we can to ensure that our guests enjoy their day, sitting in their (reclining) leather captain's chairs. We do hope that you will join us again someday!
