What To Expect
1
Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

We signed up for the helicopter tour but because of weather they were unable to fly the helicopters. We were disappointed with that but that was out of everyone’s control. Our guide Jen gave us a great land tour with lots of information about the area. She was very knowledgeable and we went to some beautiful parts of the Grand Canyon. She was available to take pictures and help in any way including lending me a warm coat because it was cold up there! It was great not to have to worry about driving and directions, would definitely recommend them.

One Day Grand Canyon Tour If you want a pleasant experience and courtesy on the road, Detours of Arizona is NOT the choice. They failed to communicate the correct pick up time the night before. I had to call them but no one picked up. So I called again the morning of the trip to confirm the pick up time is 6:30 (which is shown on their website). The tour guide/drive (Les) was extremely rude and yelled at me that the pick up time is at 6:00. He threatened me if I don't get there in 5 min they would leave. I took a cab and get there at 6:15. THEY HAVE ALREADY LEFT!! And I spent $7 on Uber. I called their customer service and reported the whole situation. They argued that they have called the night before (but I did not get anything from my phone and I was waiting for their call). Their attitude was terrible and refuse to apologize. I requested a REFUND immediately and asked when can I get my $179 back. They were NOT able to give me a time frame and trying to find excuses not give my money back. My Uber driver heard the whole conversation and suggested me to call my bank and request a DISPUTE of the transaction. I called my bank right after I get back home and get the transaction disputed. From my personal experience, I WILL NEVER do business with Detours of Arizona again.

We would first like to say that it is unfortunate the situation turned out this way. It is in no way our intention for a guest to have a bad experience, as we strive to deliver exceptional tours and customer service. However, what you neglected to share in your review is that you insisted on being picked up at a private residence, which, due to a number of regulations, we are not able to accommodate. And, so our office suggested that you Uber to the pickup location by 6:00am. Our guide made every other paying customer wait an additional 15 minutes past your expected arrival time of 6:00am, and you still were not there at 6:15am. So, in respect to the other on-time paying guests, yes, we had to leave and could not wait for you, as our time at the Grand Canyon cannot be further extended. Also, after consulting with our guide and other guests on tour, there was no indication you were ever "threatened". As per our protocol, we reach out to all our guests via telephone and email with their pick up time, the evening before they depart on their tour. Our website clearly states that our departure time is between 6:00am and 7:00am. You claim that you never received the confirmation and that is unfortunate, however our email & phone records indicate both messages were sent/left. Despite this, our office was in contact with you the morning of your tour and clarified your 6:00am pick up time once again. Dear Future DETOURS Guests, For those reading this response that are determining if you would like to take a tour with DETOURS, we recommend that you consider the 1,000s of 5 star reviews we have received on TripAdvisor as well as our Certificate of Excellence. We have been in business for 18 years providing unforgettable tours all over the American West. We hope you will visit our website to learn more, or give us a call to plan your next adventure. Thank You.

We only had a few days in Arizona and wanted to see the Grand Canyon. This was perfect for our group. They picked us up, provided some great facts during our tour and hooked us up with the helicopter tour. Yes it's a long day but they took care of the driving, some of which was in snowy areas, and the tour bus got us right to the front of every outlook at the Canyon. We stopped in quaint little western towns on the way. My 80 year old mother has mobility issues and this was so easy for her. The helicopter part was truly amazing. The bus was comfortable also. We loved the different terrain, starting in desert and moving to snowy alpine forests. Worth every penny. Bring a phone charger. Tip your driver.
