What To Expect
1
Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon National Park
Just before entering the Grand Canyon National Park, you will be checked in for your 45 minute helicopter flight, spanning over 90 miles of the Grand Canyon. After your flight, your guide will bring you back into the National Park to discover more by foot. You will have opportunities to walk the rim, shop, capture an unlimited number of photographs, or relax with the best seat in the house. Your total time at Grand Canyon including the helicopter and walking is approximately 3 hours, with approximately 1-1.5 hours on the rim walking.

The helicopter flight part of this tour with Maverick was excellent. Our pilot Patrick was friendly, informative and an excellent pilot. I also really enjoyed the visit into Grand Canyon park to view the canyon from the rim as it gives you a completely different perspective from flying overhead - just a shame we only had about an hour out of the van here (30mins at each rim location) as it's not enough time to wander off away from the tourist masses or even wander down the rim track a ways. Our tour guide Mark however i found to be annoying, he was very opinionated and thinks very highly of himself, i found some if his opinions offensive and ill informed and it was totally unprofessional when he started arguing with another passenger. It takes about 4hrs each way to drive to the canyon so if you decide to do this tour take some ear buds with you to tune out the driver in case your unlucky enough to get Mark.

Hard to describe how incredible the Grand Canyon is, and seeing it by helicopter was jaw dropping. The tour was great also, our driver was very helpful and informative. The day ran like clockwork. I’d have no hesitation in recommending this day tour.

Out tour guide, Ronny Lee, arrived at our resort on time. He was friendly and knowledgeable. The four hour trip went quickly both on the way to and from the Canyon. Ronny was able to share information about the area between Phoenix and the Canton. We had rest breaks every 90 minutes or so which included a stop for souvenirs and lunch. The 45 minute helicopter tour was magnificent. Along with the ground tour, we were able to see the Canyon from different perspectives. Our tour bus was a perfect size, just around 10 people. It was a long day, but made the trip relaxing with Ronny doing the driving and parking. I would recommend using Detours. It was a perfect way to see the sights!
